Job Summary:
As Ruggable continues its rapid growth, we are exploring new partnerships, scaling up our operations, and building out our core teams. The Privacy and IP Counsel will join Ruggable as its fifth in-house lawyer (reporting to the General Counsel), where the sky is the limit for job growth. You will establish relationships across the company and support all functional teams with their legal needs. You will create internal processes, manage outside counsel, and support the Legal Team on a range of legal matters, including data privacy, intellectual property, and commercial agreements.
What You'll Do:
- Ensure the Company’s data processing globally complies with all applicable privacy laws, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and state and federal consumer protection and privacy laws
- Work with IT, Marketing, Operations and other teams to advise and support implementation of data privacy and data security-related requirements
- Support the Company’s global IP strategy that targets growth in key market segments and geographies
- Draft documentations and filings as needed in connection with the Company’s IP enforcement efforts
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of contracts, policies, terms and correspondence with respect to privacy and IP-related matters
- Conduct periodic privacy trainings across the Company
- Support the Legal Team with all other legal matters
- Manage outside counsel
What You'll Need to Have:
- Qualified attorney and Member of the California Bar (in good standing) or eligible to register as California Registered In-House Counsel
- 3-5 years’ experience in advising clients on data privacy and IP matters or advising on or managing in-house data privacy compliance and IP enforcement efforts
- Working expertise in at least one and familiarity with a wide range of privacy law and regulation around the world (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, PIPEDA, etc.).
- Experience in working on brand protection matters
- Experience in negotiating IP and privacy terms in supply agreements, licensing agreements, content development agreements, SAAS agreements, and/or payments agreements is a plus
- Excellent problem-solving capabilities, judgment, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to provide quick-thinking, pragmatic, business-oriented advice while properly balancing risks and business reward
- Entrepreneurial spirit of a self-starter with an eagerness to build and grow relationships
- Ability to manage workloads, multiple demands, and shifting priorities
- Ability to operate autonomously while being a team player who brings a positive attitude to the workplace
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, rapidly-growing workplace
- Desire to grow, learn on the job, and expand skill set
Preferred:
- Experience working in the technology/e-commerce sectors is a plus
- Experience with companies with international operations a plus
- CIPP certification a plus
