IP Attorneys at Zest support the company’s growth and innovative pursuits by dealing with legal issues surrounding trade secrets, patents, trademarks, copyrights, and other intellectual capital. IP Attorneys use their expertise in intellectual property law to procure the rights to new ideas and protect the ownership of existing creations. This is a 3-6 month contract with the possibility of conversion to full time employment.

In this role you will:

  • Assist in licensing inventions, transferring proprietary technology, drafting licensing agreements, negotiating settlements, and conducting IP asset due diligence
  • Assess existing IP risks and formulate new rules and regulations to provide protection
  • Resolve legal issues and providing proactive legal advice and counsel in relation to intellectual property matters
  • Manage outside counsel and provide guidance and supervision to ensure that company legal and intellectual property rights are maximized
  • Evaluate benefits of patent or trade secret protection for various particular inventions
  • Advise the company in the development and implementation of intellectual property protection strategies to support the needs of individual business units
  • Drafting and negotiating technical agreements, including licenses, joint development agreements, technology agreements, and non-disclosure agreements

We are looking for:

  • A JD degree 
  • Science, engineering, or technology related degrees are a plus
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law in California
  • Registration with United States Patent and Trademark Office
  • 3-6 years attorney work experience in intellectual property matters and contract law preferred
  • Significant experience drafting and negotiating agreements and contracts
  • Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and problem solving ability
  • Triage competing priorities and balance workload appropriately 
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and build relationships cross-functionally
