You will work in our legal department to navigate the wide range of legal issues involved in growing PeerStreet’s business.

You:

• Are well-versed in issues relevant to our business. Primarily: structuring and negotiating real estate backed loans, including but not limited to being proficient in mortgage finance and related compliance matters (FCRA, CCPA, AML, etc), reviewing and analyzing title, survey, loan documents and other commercial real estate loan due diligence. 
• Possess an agile and curious mind. You’re not afraid to ask questions or admit when you are wrong.
• Are business minded and very practical in addressing legal issues. We don’t write a lot of memos at PeerStreet. We solve problems and get things done.
• Have a healthy sense of humor, and a spirit of idealism about your chosen profession.
• Operate very independently.
• Recognize that law is about the grey areas, and are comfortable living in them, while giving clear and actionable advice.
• Excel at understanding complex topics and explaining them to others in clear, concise, terms.
• Experience with mortgage lending is strongly preferred. 
• Are passionate about real estate, finance and tech.
• Thrive in a fast-paced tech-centered environment.
• Are excited that the best part of the job will be its unpredictability. There are no “typical days.” You embrace this.

Requirements

• JD.  You must have a JD from a US-accredited law school and 3+ years of experience in mortgage finance, compliance, real estate, and/or corporate and are currently registered and in good standing with at least one state bar. Strong preference for candidates with compliance backgrounds. 
• Great communication skills. Frequent and clear written communication is a must.
• Self-driven work ethic. You need to be a self-starter who loves taking initiative and seeing things through to completion.
• Curiosity and the desire to learn. Our business is changing and growing fast, who knows what will be the skills of tomorrow? Flexibility is key.
• Remote or Hybrid (Remote and On Site). Our headquarters are located in El Segundo, CA. Relocation expenses will not be provided.
• Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
