Team and Role Overview: 

At Relativity, we create the platform to build the future of humanity in space. With our 3D printing technology and autonomous robotics, we revolutionize the way rockets are built and flown. We are looking to add an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Lead, who will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining Relativity's global EHS strategies, programs, and initiatives that align with Relativity's overall objectives. The role will engage the Relativity team and all partners in developing strategies and goals, and execute plans to meet highest safety standards and create positive business impact. This position is responsible for assessing the current EHS capability at Relativity, and for driving continuous improvement around EHS across the company. The position requires the ability to successfully drive change management for EHS programs and initiatives by influencing and mobilizing cross-functional teams, and effectively communicating and tracking goals. The Environmental, Health & Safety Lead will report to the VP of Operations.

Outcomes and Objectives: 

As Environments, Health & Safety Lead, you will 

• Ensure continuous consideration for and compliance to environmental, health, and safety regulations. Implement and maintain environmental/health & safety management systems.

• Prepare & submit regulatory reports to local, state, federal & corporate entities as required.

• Monitor legislative changes and make recommendations based on their potential impact to the business.

• Maintain metrics in accordance with team and company requirements.

• Assist the Facilities & Infrastructure team, as needed, in implementing lean initiatives and general Facilities support.

• Create and manage Relativity’s EHS trainings.

• Provide budget planning information for environmental fees & permits.

• Coordinate energy conservation program and collect data to support improved conservation measures.

• Oversee environmental programs and apply for all new permits and renewals. Ensures that required documentation and inspections are completed.

• Perform safety evaluations, runs site safety committee and ergonomics programs. Performs

• Share specialized knowledge with others. Represent Relativity on specific projects and during regulatory & agency audits, and lead by example through continuous improvement in Environmental, Health & Safety procedures.

• Support awareness and integration of EHS into other functional areas such as Engineering, Production, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, etc. 

• Supports an EHS culture of excellence for safety and environmental management through effective communication.

Candidate Profile: 

To be successful in this role, you should have 5+ years of experience in Environmental, Health & Safety in a production environment, ideally in a small-to-midsized, high-growth company. Additionally, experience working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Laboratory teams is required. As an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety professional, you are comfortable quickly assessing Relativity’s facilities and operational processes, and defining Environmental, Health & Safety goals, frameworks, policies, procedures and trainings.

You are a true business enabler, and next to stewarding safety across all areas of Relativity, you consistently message the importance of Environmental, Health & Safety compliance to Relativity’s success and sustainability. You thrive in ambiguous environments, are passionate about building structure from scratch, and have an untiring focus on excellent results. 

Minimum Required Skills and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering/Science or related field required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 5+ years of related experience in the EHS discipline.
  • Proven competency in a team leader role for two or more years, and/or demonstrated leadership of major projects or programs in a team environment.
  • Technical knowledge in the areas of science and chemistry related to EHS requirements in an industrial environment is a plus.
  • Must be able to comprehend and interpret applicable EHS requirements and translate them into business language for clear understanding by the business unit leaders and employees.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence people at all levels.

Preferred Skills and Competencies

  • Experience with swamp and air credits
  • Experience with Santa Barbara County Environmental Regulations (as SB County holds, or at least did a couple years ago, the most stringent regulations in the nation)
  • Experience with St. Johns River Water Management (or similar governing entity)
  • Experience with Air Force and NASA site regulations and requirements 
  • Experience in both General Industry and Construction regulations of OSHA, as we will be shift in and out of the two different areas of regulation (and how to discern between the two) 
  • Experience with hazardous waste disposal and contaminated soil 
  • Ability to implement and oversee a Special Conservation Measures
  • Experience with DOT for shipping and tracking of hazardous cargo (hazardous waste, hazardous prop, and ordnance) 
  • Experience with Hypergolic, Pyrophoric, and High Pressure Safety Requirements
  • OSHA certification

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a United States Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required.
