Bird is a last-mile electric vehicle sharing company dedicated to bringing safe, low-cost, environmentally-friendly transportation solutions to communities across the world. We provide a fleet of electric, shared scooters that can be accessed via smartphone. Bird is headquartered in Venice, California and is rapidly expanding across the country and the world.

The Director of Government Communications will be the strategic partner to the Government Partnerships Team and will implement local city and policy-specific communications programs across the globe. These programs will start with the launch of a city and continue on to help foster a tight relationship with city officials and key stakeholders. The director of Government Communications will also work closely with the Public Affairs team to generate Nationwide campaigns and partnerships spanning the public and private sectors.

What You'll Do:

  • Partner with Bird’s Government Partnerships Team to develop, drive and execute strategy pertaining to public policy and city relations
  • Manage up and down; prioritizing and setting expectations as needed
  • Develop deep relationships with local and national media focusing on transportation, mobility and public policyJuggle multiple projects at once and unphased by change whenever it happens (because in this environment things can and do often shift very quickly
  • Influence and advise internal stakeholders on launch strategies
  • Drive media strategy pertaining to Bird’s public affairs GovTech programs and initiatives
  • Manage a geographically dispersed team of individuals focused on local market PR experts
  • Establish partnerships with public and private organizations

Qualifications:

  • A passion for Bird, experience within the public sector and policy space
  • Hunger for an exciting and evolving opportunity
  • 15+ years experience (mix of agency/in house and public sector experience preferred)
  • Comprehensive understanding of complex policy and regulatory issues
  • Policy and media partnerships globally
