The Legal Assistant provides administrative support for House Counsel, managing calendars, preparing legal documents, and coordinating depositions for workers compensation claims.
Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies, Workers Compensation Division, has an immediate opening for a Legal Assistant! This individual will provide administrative support and calendar management for one or more of our House Counsel assigned to a caseload of actively litigated workers compensation Claims files.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accurately and timely formats legal correspondence and documents through various means including digital dictation and word processing.
- Prepares legal forms, documents, and correspondence for legal filings with the appropriate Workers Compensation Appeals Board and ensures documentation for service upon appropriate parties is thorough, accurate, and timely forwarded.
- Coordinates depositions, meetings, medical-legal appointments, and exams.
- Assists with management of counsel’s litigation calendar, case list, and diaries.
- Timely prepares and organizes new legal files, including preparation of acknowledgment letters, upon assignment, ensuring all relevant documentation included. Maintains files throughout the course of litigation and timely closes upon completion.
- Copies medical reports and records as needed for file, service upon other parties, or appearances. Completes and maintains a Schedule of Records.
- Organizes and files incoming mail.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent certificate required. Associate degree from two-year college or technical school preferred. Two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in legal clerical office practice and procedures required.
- TECHNICAL SKILLS: Knowledge of office operations, workflow analysis, and current technologies in telecommunications, data entry and file management.
- COMPUTER SKILLS: Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office / 365 suite of applications and ability to become proficient in proprietary and vendor software programs.
