Job Description and Requirements

Legal AI Advisor

The Legal AI Advisor is a practicing or former lawyer who brings deep legal expertise and a passion for technology to help customers understand, adopt, and realize value from Relativity’s AI platform and claiR, our new conversational AI experience purpose-built for lawyers.

The Legal AI Advisor will report to the Senior Director, Legal AI Consulting, based in the US. Working across the full customer lifecycle, this role is uniquely positioned at the intersection of legal practice, customer engagement, and product innovation, with a primary focus on driving lawyer adoption of AI at scale.

What is a Legal Engineer?

You may know this role by another name. At Relativity we title it Legal AI Advisor, but it is the same emerging discipline the legal tech market calls legal engineering. A Legal Engineer is a practicing or former lawyer who works at the intersection of legal practice and artificial intelligence, helping attorneys understand, adopt, and get real value from AI-powered legal tools. The "engineering" here is not software engineering. It is the work of taking how legal matters actually get done, across litigation, investigations, privilege review, discovery, and compliance, and redesigning those workflows around generative AI so lawyers work faster, smarter, and more defensibly. Legal Engineers partner with lawyers across law firms, corporate legal departments, service providers, and public sector organizations, serving as credible peers and trusted advisors on AI adoption throughout the full customer journey, from first evaluation through everyday use.

Drive Pre-Sales and Adoption Conversations:

Enable Post-Sales Adoption and Value Realization:

  • Support onboarding, training, and ongoing engagement to drive sustained usage and adoption

  • Partner with Customer Success Managers to ensure adoption translates into growth and measurable impact

Act as Voice of the Legal Customer:

  • Provide structured feedback to Product Marketing, Product and Engineering on customer needs, usability, and adoption barriers

  • Help refine product capabilities to better serve attorney workflows

  • Contribute to playbooks, best practices, and scalable assets for customer engagement

Bridge Legal and Technical workflows and knowledge:

  • Translate complex AI capabilities into practical, actionable insights for legal professionals

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience practicing law at a law firm [AmLaw is a plus] and/or in-house legal team (litigation experience preferred)

  • Strong understanding of legal workflows and challenges faced by lawyers

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage both legal and executive audiences

  • Experience in client-facing roles (e.g., client advisory, legal tech, or business development) is a plus

  • Ability to operate comfortably in cross-functional and fast-moving environments

  • Hands on experience with legal AI tools, including Relativity aiR

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
