Learning Experience Designer, Workplace Safety (Contract)
About the Role

We're looking for a highly skilled Learning Experience Designer with workplace safety expertise to join our content team. In this role, you'll develop, scale, and continuously improve content for our workplace safety course catalog — spanning OSHA standards, environmental compliance, and more.

You bring both instructional design craft and EHS domain fluency, so you can translate complex federal and state safety regulations into engaging, accessible learning experiences. You also embrace AI-powered workflows to produce high-quality training faster and smarter.

Responsibilities

Course Development & Instructional Design

  • Brainstorm, outline, develop, and QA workplace safety and EHS courses across a broad regulatory spectrum — including OSHA General Industry and Construction standards, such as hazard communication (HazCom/GHS), emergency action planning, PPE, lockout/tagout, and also DOT and EPA compliance topics.

  • Translate federal and state safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, and applicable state plan standards) into clear, engaging, learner-centered training experiences.

  • Ensure all course content meets applicable regulatory requirements, including OSHA training mandates and documentation standards.

  • Design courses that are accurate, accessible, and built for a range of learner types — from frontline workers to supervisors and safety managers.

Regulatory Accuracy & Quality

  • Stay current on changes to OSHA standards, EPA regulations, and state-specific EHS requirements, and proactively flag updates that require course revisions.

  • Apply practical, real-world workplace safety knowledge to ensure training reflects how safety standards are actually implemented on the job.

Skills & Qualifications

Required

  • Demonstrated experience creating workplace safety and/or EHS training content.

  • Solid working knowledge of OSHA standards, training mandates, and the difference between awareness-level training and required authorized/competent person training.

  • Proven ability to translate regulatory requirements into relatable, engaging digital training — preferably in an LMS or e-learning format.

  • Experience with AI-powered course authoring tools such as Articulate Rise.

  • Experience using Generative AI tools in course design and content development such as Claude, ChapGPT, or Gemini.

  • Strong written communication, instructional design principles, and rigorous attention to detail.

Preferred

  • Active OSHA Outreach Trainer authorization (10-hour and/or 30-hour programs) in General Industry and/or Construction — this is a strong differentiator and signals the depth of regulatory knowledge we're looking for.

  • Familiarity with state-plan OSHA programs and how they diverge from federal standards.

  • Experience developing training for high-hazard industries such as manufacturing, construction, warehousing, oil & gas, or healthcare.

  • Background in broader EHS management systems or environmental compliance training (EPA, RCRA, DOT hazmat).

  • Current Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT) certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
