Job Summary

You are the blueprint builder who transforms business ambitions into learning ecosystems that drive results. As a Learning Architect, you will guide clients from first sketch to full launch, shaping solution strategies that connect business goals, learner needs, and measurable performance outcomes. In discovery sessions, you will unpack market pressures, capability gaps, learner moments of need, and organizational realities, then translate that insight into thoughtful roadmaps that weave together digital learning, live experiences, reinforcement strategies, and meaningful measurement.

You are the one who sees the whole system before the first asset is ever built. You will define the “why” behind the solution, recommend the right mix of modalities and technologies, and create the architecture that gives teams a clear path forward. You will lead writers, designers, and developers through the design process, helping them bring the strategy to life in ways that are engaging, feasible, compliant, and built for the real world. Externally, you are a trusted advisor who can turn complexity into clarity and articulate the rationale behind every design choice. Internally, you elevate the organization’s thinking by shaping best practices, mentoring others, and pushing the work beyond the expected.

Job Responsibilities and Skills

Client Discovery and Strategic Consultation

  • Lead discovery sessions, stakeholder interviews, and curriculum mapping conversations to identify business goals, learner needs, capability gaps, and success measures
  • Diagnose performance challenges and recommend learning or performance-based approaches that align to client priorities
  • Translate complex business and learner inputs into clear strategic recommendations

Learning Strategy and Architecture

  • Define high-level learning strategies, program structures, learner journeys, and modality recommendations across digital, live, blended, and performance-support solutions
  • Create architecture documents, journey maps, and solution blueprints that guide project teams from concept through delivery
  • Recommend the right mix of modalities, sequencing, reinforcement, and measurement approaches based on audience, context, timeline, and budget
  • Ensure all solutions align to adult learning principles, client brand needs, and regulatory or compliance requirements

Solution Planning and Proposal Support

  • Partner with business development and internal leaders to shape scopes of work, budget assumptions, level-of-effort thinking, and proposal language
  • Present solution concepts and architectural rationale to internal and client stakeholders with clarity and confidence
  • Help evaluate tradeoffs across scope, timeline, budget, and learner impact

Team Leadership and Design Guidance

  • Guide writers, designers, developers, and project teams in translating strategy into deliverables

  • Provide direction, feedback, and coaching throughout concepting and design

  • Serve as a senior point of view on solution quality, feasibility, and alignment to the approved strategy

Measurement Strategy and Optimization

  • Define measurement approaches that align learning outcomes to business or performance goals
  • Identify meaningful KPIs, assessment approaches, and data points to inform evaluation
  • Review post-launch insights and recommend strategic improvements or future enhancements

Innovation and Best Practices

  • Identify opportunities to apply modern learning methods, emerging technologies, and new design approaches where they meaningfully improve the solution
  • Contribute to internal standards, frameworks, templates, and playbooks that strengthen the organization’s design capability
  • Share expertise and elevate strategic design thinking across the team

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Adult Learning, Organizational Development, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
  • 8+ years of experience designing learning solutions, curriculum architectures, or capability-building programs, preferably in regulated industries
  • Agency side experience in pharma or biotech is required
  • Strong experience leading needs analysis, discovery, and strategic solution design
  • Demonstrated ability to create end-to-end learning architectures across multiple modalities
  • Experience presenting to senior stakeholders and translating complex needs into clear, actionable learning strategies
  • Strong understanding of adult learning science, curriculum design, measurement strategy, and learning technology ecosystems
  • Familiarity with LMS/LXP environments, eLearning development workflows, and modern learning tools
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational judgment and ability to manage multiple complex workstreams
  • Occasional travel, up to 10%, for client workshops, presentations, and strategic planning sessions

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
