Databricks Solutions Architect, Pre-Sales

Aimpoint Digital is a market-leading data, AI, and analytics consulting firm. We help organizations design, build, and operationalize modern data platforms, analytics solutions, and production AI applications.

As a leading Databricks partner, we are expanding our pre-sales solutions organization and are seeking a Databricks Solutions Architect, Pre-Sales to help shape and win complex Databricks consulting engagements.

About the Role

As a Databricks Solutions Architect, Pre-Sales, you will own the technical portion of the sales cycle end-to-end for Databricks opportunities, from initial discovery through solution design, scoping, proposal development, technical validation, and handoff to delivery.

You will partner with sales, alliance, and delivery teams to understand client needs, design the right technical solution, and translate that solution into a credible and executable consulting engagement.

This role is designed for someone who has done similar work in a consulting or professional services environment. You know how to move from an ambiguous client problem to a clear architecture, delivery approach, team structure, estimate, and statement of work.

You will work across platform implementations, migrations, lakehouse architecture, data engineering, semantic layers, analytics, and AI use cases. Your technical depth should be strongest in data and platform engineering, with a strong understanding of how modern data architectures support downstream analytics and AI.

What You Will Do

  • Own the technical portion of Databricks pursuits from first client conversation through signed engagement and transition to delivery.
  • Lead technical discovery with client engineering, architecture, data, analytics, AI, and executive stakeholders.
  • Design architectures for new Databricks platforms, migrations, modernization programs, and complex data workloads.
  • Define lakehouse and medallion architectures across bronze, silver, gold, and downstream consumption layers.
  • Solution data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, governance, security, and semantic layer patterns.
  • Design data foundations that support BI, self-service analytics, Genie, ML, GenAI, RAG, and agentic AI use cases.
  • Translate technical requirements into project scope, delivery phases, assumptions, risks, resource plans, and estimates.
  • Partner with sales and delivery leaders to develop proposals and statements of work.
  • Build and deliver technical demos, proofs of concept, architecture workshops, and solution presentations that help clients understand and validate the proposed approach.
  • Create reusable pre-sales materials, including demo environments, reference architectures, discovery frameworks, solution patterns, technical content, and estimation models.
  • Work directly with Databricks account teams and solution architects on joint pursuits and co-sell opportunities.
  • Ensure clean handoffs from pre-sales into delivery so project teams inherit clear architecture, scope, assumptions, and client context.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for a strong consulting technologist who combines technical depth, client presence, and commercial judgment.

You have likely worked in a consulting, systems integrator, or professional services organization where you owned or played a major role in complex data platform pursuits. You are comfortable entering a sales cycle early, leading discovery, challenging assumptions, whiteboarding architecture, building demos, estimating delivery effort, and helping turn a technical solution into a signed engagement.

You have enough hands-on engineering experience to earn credibility with technical teams, while being able to simplify complex concepts for data leaders and executives.

You understand that strong pre-sales work is not about designing the most sophisticated architecture. It is about identifying the right solution, demonstrating that it will work, building client confidence, and creating an engagement that the delivery team can execute successfully.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, solution architecture, technical consulting, or related roles.
  • Significant experience in consulting, professional services, systems integration, or technical pre-sales.
  • Demonstrated experience owning the technical workstream of complex enterprise sales cycles.
  • Strong Databricks architecture and implementation experience in enterprise environments.
  • Deep knowledge of modern data engineering, including Spark, SQL, Python, data pipelines, orchestration, data modeling, and distributed processing.
  • Strong understanding of lakehouse architecture, medallion patterns, Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, governance, and security.
  • Experience with data platform or warehouse migrations.
  • Understanding of semantic layers, analytics architectures, and how enterprise data platforms support AI and ML workloads.
  • Experience leading client discovery, architecture workshops, solution design, demos, estimation, and SOW scoping.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills across engineers, architects, data leaders, and executives.
  • Databricks certifications preferred.

Location

This is a full-time, remote role within the United States, with travel to client sites and partner events as needed. Priority evaluation provided for candidates based in New York City, Chicago, and Houston/Dallas. Atlanta-based applicants will have the opportunity to work in our headquarters in Sandy Springs, GA.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
