Company Description

We’re looking for a Lead Researcher to join the Spend Squad in Singapore. You’ll be part of Wise’s global mission to build an open, fair, and human financial system. Because people without borders need money without borders.

At Wise, we’ve got a clear mission — money without borders. Built by and for people who live global lives. We’re at a genuinely exciting time. Building more transparent and convenient ways to spend, pay and access credit has never been more important in achieving our mission.

Job Description

Your mission:

Wise has already pioneered new ways for people to transfer money across borders and currencies. Our personal and business customers can also manage their hard-earned money with the world’s first platform to offer true multi-currency banking. Your mission is to understand how people spend money using cards — whether locally or when travelling internationally, and including credit cards — in order to provide them with a cheaper, easier and faster experience. There will be an initial focus on business customers, who are central to Wise’s company strategy.

As the first dedicated researcher on this squad in Singapore, you will play a key role in helping to build the research practice there and set the foundations for how we conduct research in this area.

You’ll contribute by:

  • Building our understanding of people’s spending and credit behaviours among our key markets in order to ensure we are focused on solving the right things for customers

  • Owning the planning, execution and delivery of research, applying the appropriate research methods to answer the teams’ highest priority questions

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Be part of a team — you’ll be embedded in a cross-functional team where you can drive the direction and deliver the most impact. This means you can go deep and tackle the real customer problems while working side-by-side with PMs, design, analytics and engineering

  • Choose your path to impact — you’ll have the freedom to make your own calls about how best to support customer needs and reach mission zero

  • Grow the research practice in Singapore  — as the first one-the-ground research in Singapore, you will be part of helping establish how we conduct research at scale in spend and credit, with a growing team

Be part of our mission to make money without borders the new normal

Qualifications

A bit about you…

  • You have deep experience with both generative and evaluative research and are comfortable independently initiating, running and communicating research

  • You have experience being the first researcher in a company/department and setting the foundations for how to work with cross-functional partners

  • You have experience leading mixed-method studies. This encompasses a strong understanding of qualitative and quantitative user research methods and analysis techniques, including for ethnography, usability, surveys and card-sorting

  • You’re comfortable working embedded in a cross-functional product team and are able to work autonomously, as well as collaboratively with your cross-functional partners (product, data, design, engineering)

  • You’re able to guide the team on how to action your rich insights and work closely with designers to ideate based on findings

  • You have top-notch presentation skills, especially when it comes to sharing impactful insights

You not only advocate for the customer but for research more broadly, and have clear examples of making research an integral part of building products

Additional Information

And as a heads up, this role probably isn’t for you if:

  • Your experience is primarily market research and/or academia

  • You don’t have demonstrable experience leading UX research within the tech/product industry

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
