Title: Lead Product Manager, Hippo Plus

Location: Austin, TX / Dallas, TX / Morristown, NJ / San Jose, CA (Hybrid)

Reporting to: Chief Product & AI Officer

About Hippo:

Hippo was built on a promise: make homeownership effortless. Nearly a decade later, that mission still drives us. We use technology and data to help our customers stay ahead of problems and protect what matters most.

Today, that same tech-native approach powers our work beyond homeowners. Hippo operates as a diversified carrier platform, partnering with MGAs to deliver tailored solutions that help them grow and deliver better customer experiences. Behind that work is a team that values ownership, curiosity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

If you're energized by building what's next, we'd love to meet you.

About This Role:

Hippo is looking for a Lead Product Manager to help scale our newest homeowners insurance product, Hippo Plus.

Hippo Plus offers total home protection through insurance, home warranty, and preventive maintenance services—all in one plan. The Lead PM will be responsible for product strategy, roadmap, and execution across multiple teams as we grow this product, innovate on the customer experience, and drive efficiency in our operations & underwriting.

If you are passionate about harnessing technology to build and grow innovative new insurance products, this is the role for you.

What You'll Do:

  • Closely partner with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize core customer and operational needs and objectives to drive growth and profitability of Hippo Plus.
  • Identify and own the technology strategy and roadmap, grounded in real customer and business problems across underwriting, claims, service & CX, policy management, and more.
  • Build and ship AI-native products — working hands-on with engineers, business teams, and third-party tools to prototype, test, deploy, and iterate in production.
  • Lead end-to-end product execution, from problem framing and success metrics through launch, adoption, and continuous improvement

Must Haves:

  • 7+ years of product management experience in building high-impact products and features, with at least 1 year working in the insurance space.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguous business problems into shipped solutions with measurable impact
  • Experience shipping products from early concept through launch and iteration in real-world environments
  • Excellent communication, influence, and executive leadership skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or equivalent practical experience

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience building or scaling AI-native products in insurance, fintech, or adjacent regulated industries.
  • Experience operating in startup / high-growth environments with lean teams and high velocity.
  • Advanced degree (MS or MBA)

Benefits and Perks

Hippo treats its team members with the same level of dedication and care as we do our customers, which is why we’re fortunate to provide all of our Hippos with:

  • Healthy Hippos Benefits - Multiple medical plans to choose from and 100% employer covered dental & vision plans for our team members and their families. We also offer a 401(k)-retirement plan, short & long-term disability, employer-paid life insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) for health and dependent care, and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
