💛 About ZOE

ZOE is a gut health science company that turns world-leading science into everyday gut-health products. Our app helps you understand what you eat and how it affects your body — so you can build healthier habits and improve your gut health over time. It's like having a nutrition scientist and personalised advice in your pocket!

The TL;DR

You’ll join our Product Design team, a small, multi-disciplinary group of Product, Content and Motion Designers, and UX Researchers.

We care deeply about solving user problems, creating joyful user experiences, delivering impact, and maintaining a high bar for craft. We challenge each other, learn together, and believe that doing great work should be fun.

🚀 The Big Picture

This role is focused on leading high-impact product design on the ZOE app.

You’ll partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Data Analytics, sometimes embedded within a team and sometimes working across multiple areas where your impact is most needed.

You'll work hands-on within product squads, using design as a problem-solving tool, shaping what we build. You'll take work from early problem framing through to high-quality execution, helping teams move from ambiguity to clarity.

You'll raise the bar through the work you produce, your critical thinking, and how you collaborate— bringing strong product taste, native app experience, and a deep focus on outcomes.

🎯 Your Mission

End-to-end product design

  • Lead design across the full product design lifecycle, from problem framing and concept exploration to delivery and iteration.

  • Use design to explore and define solutions, not just execute against pre-defined requirements.

  • Translate complex behavioural and scientific concepts into simple, intuitive app experiences.

  • Balance user needs, business goals, and technical constraints to shape the right solutions.

Native app experience

  • Design for iOS and Android, with a strong understanding of platform conventions, patterns, and interaction models.

  • Create thoughtful, responsive, and polished mobile experiences, with attention to motion, feedback, and detail.

  • Work closely with engineers to ensure high-quality implementation.

Raising the quality bar

  • Bring strong visual and interaction design craft: layout, hierarchy, typography, and micro-interactions.

  • Lead through making, setting the standard via your own work.

  • Contribute to design critiques, pairing, and team discussions to elevate overall quality.

Cross-functional collaboration

  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering to define problems and shape direction.

  • Contribute to product strategy and decision-making, not just design execution.

🧠 Your DNA

Experience & craft

  • Have a portfolio showing strong end-to-end product design work on native apps, with clear impact.

  • Bring high-quality UI and interaction design craft.

  • Have experience designing and shipping B2C mobile app experiences (iOS and/or Android).

  • Are comfortable working from early concepts through to detailed execution.

Thinking & mindset

  • Use design as a problem-solving tool, not just a delivery function.

  • Frame work around user and business problems, not features or screens.

  • Are comfortable with ambiguity and can create clarity through exploration.

  • Think in flows, systems, and behaviours, not just individual screens.

  • Care about outcomes and impact, not just output.

Ways of working

  • Are a maker first — you lead through doing.

  • Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering as partners.

  • Communicate ideas clearly and bring others along with your thinking.

  • Are low-ego, pragmatic, and focused on what works.

  • Take ownership and follow through.

🌱 Why join ZOE?
  • Work on meaningful problems with real impact on people’s health.

  • Operate at the intersection of science, product, and growth.

  • Shape critical revenue and member journeys at a pivotal stage of growth.

  • Collaborate with world‑class scientists, designers, and technologists.

  • Enjoy a remote‑first environment built on trust and support.

Join us on our mission to improve the health of millions.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
