About Faire

Faire is an online wholesale marketplace built on the belief that the future is local — independent retailers around the globe are doing more revenue than Walmart and Amazon combined, but individually, they are small compared to these massive entities. At Faire, we're using the power of tech, data, and machine learning to connect this thriving community of entrepreneurs across the globe. Picture your favorite boutique in town — we help them discover the best products from around the world to sell in their stores. With the right tools and insights, we believe that we can level the playing field so that small businesses everywhere can compete with these big box and e-commerce giants.

By supporting the growth of independent businesses, Faire is driving positive economic impact in local communities, globally. We’re looking for smart, resourceful and passionate people to join us as we power the shop local movement. If you believe in community, come join ours.

About this role

Faire is a company invested in the importance of design—as a Lead Product Designer, you’ll join a tight-knit, collaborative team of designers who care deeply about creating beautiful and intuitive experiences. Our team is at the center of product work at Faire, designing experiences for the thousands of small retailers and maker brands growing their businesses in our marketplace.

Advertising on Faire connects unique brands with independent retailers who love their products, while funding the benefits we offer to retailers and the continued growth of our marketplace. In this role, you’ll embed in the Ads team to build a world-class advertising platform that drives growth for brands, helps retailers discover the best products for their stores, and delivers more value to brands, retailers, and Faire alike.

Ads is one of Faire’s fastest-growing product areas, and you’ll have outsized ownership and clear paths for high-impact work. You’ll be asked to establish a deep understanding of Faire’s ad ecosystem, customers, and shopping experience, develop a compelling design vision for the future of advertising on Faire, and drive execution on impactful solutions. Most importantly, you’ll need to help grow our Ads offering without compromising the quality and delight of our retailer shopping experience.

We're looking for candidates open to working in San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY.

What you’ll do

  • Collaborate with partners across product, engineering, data science, sales, and marketing to define, build, and release new products and features.
  • Ship high-quality solutions across the end-to-end Ads stack, for both brands managing ads and retailers seeing them.
  • Construct user flows, wireframes, and prototypes that effectively communicate design concepts for validation.
  • Develop and deliver well-documented, high-fidelity visuals that accurately represent Faire’s brand and design system standards.
  • Participate in and/or lead user interviews and research to better understand customer needs.
  • Contribute strategic thinking to product features and roadmap.
  • Write UX content that helps customers accomplish their goals on Faire.
  • Raise the quality bar on our Ads products, strengthen design systems, and scale best practices across the team.
  • Contribute to and positively shape the design team’s culture through collaboration, feedback, and process iteration.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience designing digital products and systems. You have a breadth of knowledge of what goes into product design, from systems to visuals.
  • Passion for the details. You have experience delivering high quality experiences, and doing what it takes to get the details right.
  • Great communication skills. You present design decisions and processes clearly and confidently, regardless of audience.
  • A collaborative approach. You’re a great partner to other designers and your cross-functional teammates.
  • A growth-mindset. You’re open and receptive to feedback, and can adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • A sense of humor. We spend a lot of time together—sharing gifs and laughing over zoom keeps us energized and inspired throughout the day.
  • Familiarity with digital advertising or marketplace monetization is a plus but not required; genuine excitement to become an expert is essential.

We value candidates that bring a range of experience from different industries and a variety of creative influences. If you’re a maker or retailer yourself and can bring first-hand experience and empathy for the small business and entrepreneurial journey, tell us your story!

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
