Turtle Rock is seeking a Lead Mission Designer to spearhead the development of our narrative-driven content. This role will own the vision, structure and implementation of campaign and side mission content. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience with pacing and storytelling through gameplay.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain mission script quality while balancing technical and performance constraints
  • Partner closely with the Lead Sandbox Designer and cross-discipline teams (Production, Art, Engineering) to craft engaging scenarios, events and missions
  • Manage a team of Mission Designers and review their work to craft engaging, replayable scenarios and events
  • Drive the development of tools, workflows, and best practices for mission scripting and gameplay systems 
  • Conceptualize, build, and refine narrative-driven mission content in UE5, setting the bar for quality and best practices 
  • Serve as the central point of contact for Mission Design, coordinating with  Production, Art, Engineering, and QA
  • Author clear design documentation for missions, features, and tool requests.
  • Work with production for planning out future milestones
  • Mentor and manage team members through 1:1s, career development, performance reviews, goal setting, and hiring
  • Provide constructive feedback and foster open design discussions
  • Playtest regularly to evaluate and refine mission content
Requirements
  • 7+ years in game development with at least one shipped AAA title on multiple platforms
  • 2+ years in a Lead role managing and mentoring designers
  • Portfolio showcasing heavily scripted missions and/or dynamic objectives
  • Experience with Unreal Engine and Blueprint
  • Expertise in mission/level design process  from concept through delivery, with strong pacing and playtesting skills
  • Proven ability to thrive in a highly collaborative, iterative environment
  • Passion for FPS, co-op, and multiplayer games
Preferences
  • Some knowledge of C++
  • Demonstrated experience working on cooperative FPS
  • Familiarity with development tools such as Perforce, JIRA, and Confluence

The estimated base pay range for this role is: $140,000 —$195,000 USD
