As Lead Data Center Electrical Engineer – Project Engineering, you will be responsible for assisting with the design, preconstruction and construction activities on a given project(s). The Lead Data Center Electrical Engineer will interact daily with Contractors, Engineers, Commissioning Agents, and Vendors and should have both written and oral communication skills commensurate with this level of regular communication.
Key Accountabilities
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to define project scope requirements, deviations from the standards, and communicating requirements with the design team.
- Review design documents, bid packages, and schedules to ensure conformance with contract expectations, noting and resolving issues or conflicts that could impact installation or other trades involved with project
- Identify and ensure implementation of standards and low-cost alternatives, ensuring key stakeholders are kept informed of issues affecting the project
- Collaborate with the procurement team to review OFCI equipment submittals for compliance with the standard design criteria.
- Review construction documents for completeness and constructability
- Provide design and installation support (Ex: RFI) to on-site staff, EPC contractor, and EPC project management team
- Support project teams in resolving design issues discovered during construction and commissioning phases.
- Work with consultants to develop and review Short Circuit, Coordination, and Arc Flash studies for adherence to the design standards.
- Assist Development leadership and Project Manager with day-to-day activities and responsibilities
- Conduct effective pre-construction planning sessions
- Review project proposals with engineering and site development teams to advise on project schedules, limitations, procedures for accomplishing projects
- Verify that construction agrees with engineering design drawings, including preparatory meetings, and QA/QC
- Perform field observations and provide installation support as part of the construction quality assurance process
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously
Required Skills
- 7+ years’ experience in construction management, design, design management, or relevant field
- 5+ years’ experience with data center design and/or construction projects
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Experience with electrical engineering systems and their integration into mission-critical environments.
Preferred Skills
- Licensed Professional Engineer (preferred but not required)
