About the Role:

PURE Insurance is hiring a Lead Data Analyst to help transform how we manage and deliver regulatory data calls and statistical reporting. This is a critical role within our growing Data and ML/AI department and offers a rare opportunity to build and scale a centralized and highly efficient reporting function. This role also offers the chance to help build out a modern data platform using tools like Databricks, dbt, GitHub, and Hex. You will collaborate with technical personnel across data architecture, data engineering, analytics engineering, and data science.

You will lead the analysis and delivery of hundreds of recurring and ad hoc regulatory data calls that span across policy, exposure, rating, and claims/loss data. This work is now being unified under a centralized team, where you’ll help streamline and automate key workflows, standardize reporting logic, and partner closely with Product, Actuarial, Underwriting, Claims, and Finance to ensure accurate, consistent, and reliable reporting.

We value resolve, curiosity, and thoughtful execution. Our leadership team understands that building strong foundations in Data and ML/AI takes time — and embraces the learning that comes from taking on ambitious challenges. Your voice matters here, and your contributions will have meaningful impact.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the end-to-end execution of regulatory data calls and statistical reporting, including recurring (monthly/quarterly/annual) and ad hoc requests.
  • Analyze and join complex P&C insurance datasets (policy, exposure, rating, claims/loss) to produce accurate, audit-ready deliverables.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams — including Data Engineering, Product, Actuarial, Underwriting, Claims, Finance, and Compliance — to define requirements and implement reporting solutions.
  • Build robust SQL queries and reporting templates that can be automated, scheduled, and scaled.
  • Contribute to the design and maintenance of modern data pipelines alongside data and analytics engineers.
  • Own the documentation and validation of key regulatory deliverables to ensure reproducibility & transparency.
  • Drive quality, consistency, and efficiency across the newly formed regulatory reporting function.

What We’re Looking For

  • 3–5+ years of experience in data analytics, preferably with experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance.
  • Strong working knowledge of insurance and actuarial KPIs, and comfort working with regulatory requirements and structured filings.
  • Expertise in SQL, and experience building reports or dashboards in Tableau, Power BI, Hex, or similar BI tools.
  • Clear and confident communicator who can work effectively across technical and business teams.
  • Experience documenting analytical processes, reviewing peers’ work, and supporting audits.
  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, actuarial science, business analytics, or a related field.

Bonus Points For

  • Direct experience with DOI data calls, NAIC statistical reporting, or regulatory/market conduct filings.
  • Familiarity with dbt, Databricks, and Git-based workflows.
  • A track record of modernizing legacy reporting processes or building analytical systems from the ground up.

Location & Work Environment

This is a full-time, fully remote position. You can work from anywhere in the United States or choose to work from one of PURE Insurance’s office locations, including White Plains (NY), Warren (NJ), Chicago (IL), Boston (MA), Charleston (SC), Atlanta (GA), Fort Lauderdale (FL), Scottsdale (AZ), and San Diego (CA).

The base salary for this role can range from $120,000 to $140,000 based on a full-time work schedule. An individual’s ultimate compensation will vary depending on job-related skills and experience, geographic location, alignment with market data, and equity among other team members with comparable experience

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
