Root was founded on the belief that car insurance is broken, and we set out to change it. We’re harnessing the power of technology to revolutionize this archaic, complicated industry. Using machine learning and mobile telematic platforms, we’ve built one of the most innovative insurtech companies in the world.

The Opportunity

At Root, we’re on a mission to improve the lives of our customers by offering better insurance solutions. We challenge ourselves to think differently in order to reimagine insurance to make it smarter, more equitable, and a better experience for all.

We strive to “unbreak” the archaic insurance industry by using data and technology in innovative new ways. We believe we must be steadfast in our commitments to research, experimentation, and disciplined data-driven decision making in order to build products our customers love. Analytics sits at the center of our vision.

Our Marketing team manages all aspects of our direct to consumer marketing. Our efforts span Search Engine Marketing, Direct Mail, Vertical Search, Email retargeting, and other Mid to Upper Funnel initiatives. Our marketing strategy is built on a quantitative foundation with focus on rigorous experimentation and measurement. As such, marketing efforts are led by Data Science and Analytics. This team strives to ensure we attract high intent potential customers to achieve a favorable return on ad spend and company growth.

As a Lead Analyst, you’ll own the design and execution of high-impact analytics projects that drive our marketing performance and strategic decision making. You’ll lead complex exploratory research, develop attribution models, optimize bidding and targeting strategies, and innovate on advanced methodologies to better measure campaign effectiveness. You’ll act as a trusted thought partner to senior stakeholders, and mentor analysts across the team. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional peers in Product, Data Science, and Engineering to ensure the marketing roadmap is grounded in strong analytical foundations.

Reports to the Analytics Manager of Marketing.

Salary Range:  $120,000 - $135,000 (Bonus & LTI Eligible)

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
