Lead Data & AI Engineer

Milestone’s Arcules team is developing the future of intelligent security systems — a scalable, device-agnostic, cloud-first platform that empowers customers to understand and anticipate their environments with ease. We’re looking for a Lead Data & AI Engineer to architect, design, and evolve the intelligent analytics portion of our surveillance cloud platform. This spans from squeezing the most out of video and data coming off streams to building scalable data pipelines to deploying AI models and building agents that power insight for our customers.

In this role, you’ll architect and implement our data lakehouse, transform existing data into high-value “gold” datasets for AI applications, and design the AI systems that bring those insights to life. You’ll work hands-on with cutting-edge technologies including Spark, Iceberg, Triton, Go, Python and GCP.

Our data pipelines process petrabyte-scale video streams, requiring close to real-time inference. We own what we build – not handoffs. We follow a flow-based model focused on outcomes. Code review and CI aren’t optional. We’re a small team, so we have high autonomy and direct customer impact.

We’re a fully remote team primarily across the U.S. and Latin America, using modern engineering practices and a flow-based model focused on outcomes. Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership as an individual contributor through architecture design, code reviews, and setting engineering standards for the team while solving business challenges.
• Collaborate well with their engineering colleagues, product managers, and designers.
• Are responsible, have good judgement, and seek continuous improvement.
• Solve complex technical challenges creatively and with empathy for our customers.

Professional Qualifications

• 5+ years building and deploying production ML systems and distributed data infrastructure
• Strong expertise in Python and Go for building data pipelines and large-scale datasets
• Experience with modern cloud infrastructure: GCP, Terraform, Docker, K8s
• Experience building distributed systems using gRPC and polyglot data stores
• Deep experience with AI model lifecycle management, from development to monitoring
• Strong expertise in large dataset optimization, distributed storage, and search functionality (e.g., Spark and Iceberg)
• Experience with different database paradigms (relational, graph, columnar, and document)
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across distributed teams
• Interest in learning and applying emerging agentic AI pattern

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with video surveillance systems or derived data from camera networks
• Node.js development experience

The annual salary for this position ranges from $175,000 to $195,000 range. Pay is based on the level, location, complexity, responsibility, and job duties of the specific position and is just one component of Milestone’s total compensation package. Additionally, we offer an attractive benefits package that includes medical/dental benefits, FSA or HSA, 401k with 6% Safe Harbor employer match, paid parental leave, generous PTO (20 days' vacation, 10 days paid sick time, and 12 company holidays), fully paid Short Term disability policy, fully paid Long Term disability policy, and Life Insurance.
