About the Role:

The Lead Business Affairs oversees all business and legal aspects of producing content at Hims & Hers. The role specifically forecasts production costs monthly and quarterly, processes invoices, handles contracts/agreements and 3rd-party clearances, estimates talent session and residual or buyout fees, negotiates licensed music, tracks usage expiration dates, and ensures jobs are actualized and archived. Will establish and set best practice and standards for business affairs within the creative and production teams. Also will establish and carry through said practices as we build our in-house content studio.

You Will:
  • Review creative materials and advise teams on any talent and legal implications and escalate to in-house counsel as necessary.

  • Prepare video talent estimates for production. Advises production on most cost-effective ways / options for hiring talent.

  • Advise on all union (SAG-AFTRA, ACTRA, AFM, etc) rules and regulations.

  • Actively partner with production to introduce new vendors and creative production partners

  • Processes talent payments through session reports, completion of final cast lists, pay and, track all talent reuse.

  • Lead project wrap, archiving, and ongoing usage process

  • Negotiate usage rights to third party licensing/clearance (image, footage, music, quotes, etc.).

  • Trademark searches.

  • Research music compositions or recordings to see if a track is available for licensing. Work to procure synchronization and master rights, if needed. Assess related costs for proposed use, including payment of any applicable SAG, AFTRA and AFM residuals.

  • Prepare all contracts related to production including production contracts, music contracts, talent contracts and purchase orders. Liaise with legal on redlines as necessary.

You Have:
  • 8+ year’s related work experience as a Business Affairs Manager, ideally in-house for a brand or from an Advertising Agency, including 2+ years of leading and mentoring teams.

  • Serve as a mentor and leader within the Production team, contributing to a culture of collaboration, curiosity, and craft.

  • Proven leadership in managing projects, freelance crews, and outside vendors.

  • Solid knowledge of SAG, AFTRA and AFM union contracts

  • Familiar with legal and clearance issues

  • Thorough understanding of broadcast production

  • Excellent communications skills, written and verbal

  • Excellent negotiation, leadership and interpersonal skills

  • Need to have a problem-solving attitude

  • Be organized and able to multitask

  • Individual must be able to remain calm during stressful situations while managing urgent deadlines

  • Strong knowledge of copyright, trademark, and licensing or advertising law
