Lead AI Architect
Location: U.S.-based (Preferred: Houston/Richmond, TX or Newport, CA; Open to Austin)
Company: OneCruit
Type: Full-time

About the Role
We are looking for a Lead AI Architect to join OneCruit as the first and most critical engineering hire. This role is both strategic and hands-on: you’ll be responsible for building AI systems from the ground up, protecting our IP, and scaling real-world client deliverables. As the company grows, this role will evolve into leading and growing a team. This is an opportunity to shape the technical foundation of OneCruit’s AI initiatives across recruiting, legal, logistics, and beyond.

What You’ll Do
Architect, build, and deploy AI-driven systems across multiple industries.
Lead development of:
    • AI Recruiting Scraper – scalable tool to source and deliver candidate data from platforms like LinkedIn.
    • Agentic Paralegals – autonomous AI paralegals available 24/7 as lower-cost client support.
    • Oil & Gas RFP Automation – AI system to identify opportunities, draft proposals, and streamline applications.
    • AI-driven Logistics Platform – logistics automation for a new SDVOSB serving enterprise clients.
    • Blockchain File System Integration – solutions to secure AI agents against replication/theft.
    • Build prototypes/tests during the interview process (e.g., small agent projects).
    • Work across cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) to deploy and scale solutions.
    • Eventually lead and mentor a team of engineers as the organization grows.

What We’re Looking For
  • AI-focused software engineer/architect with strong experience building agentic AI systems (autonomous agents).
  • Cloud-native experience in AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Language-agnostic: comfortable working across platforms and programming languages.
  • 3+ years of AI-specific experience (we’re open to depth over years on paper).
  • Strong architectural mindset: ability to design, build, and scale systems.

Why Join OneCruit?
  • Be the first engineering hire driving the foundation of our AI strategy.
  • Work directly on impactful, client-facing systems across multiple industries.
  • Combine hands-on coding with high-level architecture and leadership.
  • Join a company that values innovation, autonomy, and building practical, scalable AI solutions.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
