General Description:

We are seeking a Lateral Conflicts Senior Analyst to join our team. The Lateral Conflicts Senior Analyst will identify and resolve conflicts of interest associated with the hiring of new attorneys and staff candidates. Periodic in-person presence is required for annual or bi-annual weekend team-building events. Attendance at in-person quarterly meetings may also be required, depending on a person's location. Lateral Conflicts Analysts can be based within a reasonable commuting distance of any of our U.S. offices.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:

  • Work closely with candidates, sponsoring partners, and the Human Resources Department to identify and obtain information needed for lateral conflict clearance.
  • Review and analyze conflict search results associated with new lateral candidates.
  • Prepare and distribute conflicts analysis for lateral candidates.
  • Organize and track progress of lateral candidates through the clearance process.
  • Draft waiver letters as needed to clear conflicts of interest.
  • Erect and maintain ethical walls and other legal screens as required.
  • Assist in answering questions related to conflicts of interest, the business intake process, the lateral conflict clearance process, and other Firm policies.
  • Assist transition partners with the disposition of departing attorneys’ clients and matters.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts of interest associated with new business intake as requested.
  • Monitor changes in ethics rules, ethics opinions, and case law regarding conflicts of interest.
  • Monitor client mergers and acquisitions to identify and resolve conflicts of interest.
  • Assist with keeping all shared documents current and accurate.
  • Develop departmental procedures as required.
  • Train and mentor Lateral Conflicts Analysts as required.
  • Special projects and duties as assigned.

  • Ability to exercise the appropriate amount of discretion in escalating and communicating issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong research, computer, and database skills.
  • Ability to effectively train and mentor Lateral Conflicts Analysts.

Required Qualifications & Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Paralegal Certification.
  • 5 years legal experience identifying and clearing conflicts of interest for new lateral hires.

Preferred Qualifications & Education:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • Legal experience identifying and clearing conflicts of interest for new lateral hires with a large law firm.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Moderate or advanced keyboard usage.

This position may be filled in Illinois, District of Columbia, New York, Colorado or California. Based on the required pay disclosure laws in these states, the base salary ranges for this position are listed below. These ranges may not be applicable to other locations.  An individual's actual compensation will depend on the individual's qualifications and experience. In addition to the base compensation, Holland & Knight provides bonus opportunities and an exceptional benefits package.

  • Illinois – $106,000k - $160,000k/yr
  • District of Columbia – $116,000k - $174,000k/yr
  • New York City – $116,000k - $174,000k/yr
  • Colorado - $97,000k - $145,000k/yr
  • California – $116,000k - $174,000k/yr
