About Blumen

Blumen is building the operating system to power the next decade of American Infrastructure. A year from founding, we work with some of the largest renewable power, data centers, telecom, and utilities in the world. Join us in unblocking the next $2T of power, connectivity, and critical infrastructure with world class software.

What we're looking for

Blumen uses federal, state, and local regulatory documents to derive permitting intelligence for our customers projects. We are looking for an intern that has a good grasp of GIS concepts and is focusing on a land use planning or policy, urban planning, or similar degree. We need someone that likes to dig in, find, and review documents to make determinations about the impacts on our customer's projects.

Responsibilities
  • Find and research county, city, and other municipal documents

  • Use a tracking system to update municipal documents with new zoning and comprehensive plan documents

  • Upload documents and run "test case" projects for our customers using Blumen software

  • Pitch in on other tasks as needed

Qualifications
  • Preferred working towards completion of a masters degree (or late stage completion of a bachelors degree)

  • General understanding of land use regulations and policy

  • General understanding of the term "authorities having jurisdiction"

Our values
  1. Put yourself in the customer’s shoes. We care deeply about serving our customers above all else.

  2. No job is too small. Details matter, even if nobody will ever see them.

  3. Every problem is an opportunity. Any solution that is clever, difficult to reproduce, or takes serious guts is an opportunity to widen our moat.

  4. To go far, go together. We trust, respect, win, and lose together, as a team.

  5. Own the problem. Not your solution. Best idea wins.

  6. It doesn’t get easier. We just get faster. There is no finish line. Every day is a step toward compounding success. This is a marathon toward excellence.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
