L&D Experience Designer, People Operations (Remote)

Full-Time, Remote / Salary, Exempt / Includes Benefits, PTO, Flexible Schedule, Equity

Steno is growing! We're looking for an L&D Experience Designer to focus on creating meaningful, informative, and engaging content with staying power, and to scale up our onboarding and career development programs as we continue to revolutionize the litigation technology industry. We’re a diverse team from all over the country (and beyond) and we’re crazy about redefining the boundaries of an outdated industry.

In this role, you will report to the VP of People Operations and will contribute to the design, development, and delivery of learning programs that enable employees for fast growth. You will contribute to our bespoke content and onboarding experience, create engaging learning content across multiple systems, and partner with subject matter experts company-wide to translate complex information into intuitive solutions. You will also play an essential role in measuring learning effectiveness and continuously improving our talent onboarding and development strategy, ensuring that team members have the knowledge and skills to excel in their roles and beyond.

Who are you?

We're looking for a passionate, strategic, forward-thinking learning professional who excels at content creation and instructional design, and is proficient at collaboration - not just with their own team, but also cross-functionally with internal stakeholders across an organization. This role serves as a key architect of our onboarding and learning ecosystem, designing content and experiences that drive business outcomes, and translating business needs into impactful learning solutions.

If you're looking for a company that offers support, guidance, an abundance of killer giphys, and unlimited potential to grow into your best self, we'd love to have you too.

On a regular basis you will

  • Design and partner with stakeholders to develop comprehensive onboarding content and curricula for new hires across departments and levels, ensuring consistent, engaging experiences that accelerate time-to-productivity.
  • Create impactful, memorable learning content in multiple formats (e-learning modules, videos, job aids, facilitator guides, microlearning) using modern instructional design methodologies and adult learning principles.
  • Conduct regular learning needs assessments and collaborate with department leaders to identify skill gaps and design targeted learning interventions that support business objectives.
  • Build and maintain a scalable learning content library, including process documentation, training resources, and contribute to the content and management of our knowledge base.
  • Implement learning measurement strategies, analyzing completion rates, assessment scores, qualitative surveys, and performance data to demonstrate ROI and drive continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to and help operationalize manager enablement initiatives, designing and delivering training that builds coaching and performance management capabilities across the organization.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to develop role-specific training programs, ensuring learning solutions align with operational workflows and compliance requirements.
  • Evaluate and leverage learning technologies and tools (LMS, authoring tools, video platforms) to enhance content delivery and learner engagement.
  • Maintain brand consistency across all learning materials and ensure accessibility standards are met for inclusive learning experiences.
  • Support culture-building initiatives through learning programs that reinforce company values and promote belonging.

You're gonna crush it if

  • You have 5+ years of experience in learning and development, instructional design, or talent development, with demonstrated progression in scope and complexity. Experience in high-growth or remote-first environments is a strong plus.
  • You have a portfolio showcasing diverse learning content you've designed and developed, with measurable impact on business or performance outcomes.
  • You are highly skilled in instructional design models and apply adult learning theory to create learner-centered experiences.
  • You are proficient with learning technologies and authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Canva, LMS platforms) and can quickly adapt to new technologies.
  • You are a strategic thinker who can translate business challenges into learning solutions and articulate the "why" behind design decisions.
  • You have exceptional project management skills, managing multiple concurrent initiatives with competing deadlines while maintaining quality standards.
  • You are a collaborative partner who can influence stakeholders at all levels, manage up effectively, and build consensus around learning strategies.
  • You demonstrate strong facilitation and presentation skills, you are comfortable delivering live training and representing the learning function company-wide.
  • You are data-driven, using metrics and feedback to iterate on learning programs and demonstrate value to leadership.
  • You exemplify amazing people skills and professionalism, and exercise solid judgment when balancing learner needs with business priorities.
  • You are a willing and able learner yourself. You need to be a sponge and have a track record of having learned technical subjects and translated them to various learning audiences.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary - $85k - $115k
  • Health, Vision, & Dental Benefits - low-cost health plans that free up mind space and unlock our employees' best work
  • Wellness/Mental Health - shared benefits to be used among employees & families
  • Flexible Paid Time Off - allowing employees to find balance in their lives
  • Options of Equity - we know our success is nothing without our team
  • Access to a company-provided 401(k) account
  • A home office setup and a monthly stipend to offset internet and phone costs

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
