About the Role & Program
KABC-TV (ABC7) is an ABC owned television station (OTV), located in Glendale, near downtown Los Angeles. The station is in the #2 ranked television market in the country. Weekly, our team at ABC7 produces over sixty-three hours of local news, public affairs, magazine programs and public service campaigns! You will have an opportunity to participate in developmental programming, contribute to daily operations of a major market television station, and learn about what we do.
We are looking for an intern to join our collaborative team. You will be provided a view of all aspects of content creation, production and operations of our Community Engagement & Development department at ABC7. This includes working individually or as part of a team on original multiplatform storytelling and supporting station-corporate initiatives and events originated by ABC7!
The approximate dates of this internship are January 2027 through early June 2027.
What You Will Do
- Produce original digital, streaming and social media content, from concept to completion.
- Distribute ABC7 Community content across abc7.com/community, our owned platforms and news app.
- Engage our ABC7 Community audience across our social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, X and Threads.
- Assist with internal communications and events, including our station newsletter, digital informational signage, heritage month events, and other KABC functions.
- Assist in the management and operation of our ABC7 Street Team events across SoCal.
- Interact with ABC7 viewers, community and corporate partners in person and online.
- Connect with community-based non-profit organizations, and the communities that interact with and are supported by ABC7.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Major or previous coursework in journalism, communications, community engagement, corporate citizenship & social responsibility, event planning, urban development and/or social media/branding
- Experience using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Previous experience working in an office setting, including answering emails and phone calls
- Experience using social media platforms to engage with an audience
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to ideate and execute production of vertical videos
- Familiarity with Edits, CapCut, and other vertical video tools
- Demonstrative video editing experience and/or ability to edit and write original storytelling for multiple platforms
- Experience using Microsoft Teams, Smartsheet, Airtable, and/or Google Docs
- Previous experience (academic or internship) in journalism (print and/or broadcast); television, news and new media production; and/or television news script writing
Education
- Major or previous coursework in Journalism, Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, Business Administration, or related major
- Junior or Senior year preferred
Eligibility Requirements & Internship Information
Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:
- Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Possess unrestricted work authorization
- Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or Disney College Program
Additional Information
- Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship
- The approximate dates of this internship are January 2027 through early June 2027
- Fully available to work 40 hours per week during a Monday through Sunday schedule (hours and days to be determined by your supervisor and could include nights and/or weekends)
- Able to provide own housing for the duration of the internship program in the Glendale, California area
- Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work
The pay rate for this role in California is $18.47 per hour.
