YOUR IMPACT
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Full Stack Java Developer to join our engineering team. In an environment where our SDLC is powered by cutting-edge AI tools (including generative AI for coding, testing, and documentation), your primary focus will shift from boilerplate implementation to high-level system architecture, critical evaluation of AI-generated code, and complex problem-solving.
This role is for a developer who sees AI not as a replacement for skill, but as a force multiplier that demands greater judgment, technical depth, and prompt engineering expertise. Leveraging AI, you will work across the entire software development lifecycle, from concept to deployment, collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality, impactful solutions.
Key Responsibilities
  • AI-Enhanced Development & Delivery: Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, scalable Java applications and microservices (primarily using Spring Boot/Spring Framework). Utilize AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, internal tools) to increase speed and offload repetitive tasks.
  • Prompt Engineering for SDLC: Apply advanced prompt engineering techniques to maximize the efficacy of generative AI tools for writing comprehensive unit/integration tests, drafting technical documentation (Javadoc, API specs), and generating code refactoring suggestions.
  • CI/CD and Observability: Oversee and enhance automated build, test, and deployment pipelines (CI/CD, Kubernetes/Docker) in a cloud environment (AWS/Azure/GCP), leveraging AI tools for proactive anomaly detection and monitoring.
Required Technical Qualifications
  • Some professional experience in developing enterprise-level applications using Java (8+ / modern Java).
  • Proficiency with the Spring Ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Security).
  • Understanding of Object-Oriented Design (OOD), software design patterns, and Microservices architecture.
  • Some practical experience with concurrency and multithreading in Java to build highly performant services.
  • Proficiency in modern DevOps practices, including Git, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
  • Understanding of front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., ReactJS, MobX).
  • Experience with relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis).

Essential AI-Era Skills (The "New Bar")
  • AI Tool Fluency: Demonstrated ability to proficiently use AI-powered developer tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, CodeWhisperer) in a production environment.
  • Code Judgment: Reviews and tests AI-generated code before using it, checks that it fits the task and team standards, and seeks guidance when a suggestion raises questions about security, performance, or the broader design.
  • Prompting Proficiency: Experience writing clear, contextual, and effective prompts for generative AI to produce usable code, tests, or documentation.
  • Adaptability & Learning: High degree of curiosity and a proactive approach to learning new AI tools and techniques that continuously reshape the development workflow.
  • Domain & Architectural Focus: The capacity to abstract away from low-level coding details to focus on high-value business logic and systemic architectural integrity.

YOUR EXPERIENCE
  • Familiarity with mainframes and mainframe development.
  • Understanding of agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)
  • Familiarity with test-driven development (TDD) or behavior-driven development (BDD).
  • Experience in the automation or SaaS industry.
  • Contributions to open-source projects or a strong GitHub portfolio.
Why Join Us?
  • Competitive compensation package, comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Opportunity to work on innovative and impactful products that are transforming industries.
  • Generous paid time off, holidays and flexible work arrangements.
  • Work with a highly skilled, passionate, and diverse  team of engineers.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • Collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • “One Redwood” company culture.

Pay Transparency: The typical base salary range for this position is 83,000 - 105,000 CAD annually. The range represents base salary only, and does not include company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity or benefits, as applicable. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate's skills, experience, and relevant qualifications.
Vacancy Status: Existing vacancy

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
