About Nerdio

At Nerdio, our mission is to simplify the lives of IT professionals and maximize their Microsoft cloud and end user computing investments.

We support organizations of all sizes looking to deploy, manage, and cost-optimize native Microsoft technologies. We partner with Enterprises and Managed Service Providers all over the world to add value on top of their existing native Microsoft investments like Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Windows 365, and Microsoft Intune.

Created in 2016, Nerdio has always taken a market-leading and collaborative approach to cloud deployment and management. In fact, our product roadmap is greatly influenced by the regular feedback we receive from having seen companies deploy AVD into production environments several thousand times using Nerdio technology.

Today, Nerdio is used in over 50 countries by more than 15,000 organizations of every size and vertical. We’re committed to delivering exceptional service and support, which starts with identifying and supporting the best staff possible.

We are a fast-moving, nimble company looking for individuals who are collaborative, empathetic, driven and who love to move at the speed of light. If you want to be part of the AVD transformation that Microsoft and Nerdio are leading, then we want to speak with you.

About the role

We are looking for a seasoned IT professional to join our team as an IT Systems Lead, with a strong focus on Microsoft 365 and Azure infrastructure. This is a player-coach role — you will lead and mentor a team of IT professionals while remaining hands-on in the day-to-day technical work. You are someone who is equally comfortable writing a policy in Entra ID as you are mentoring a junior team member through a support escalation.

This role is critical in maintaining, evolving, and securing Nerdio's internal IT environment across our global workforce.

What you'll do

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of IT professionals across time zones
  • Serve as a player-coach — actively contributing to technical projects while guiding the team's growth and performance
  • Establish team standards, documentation practices, and escalation processes
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to align IT operations with business needs

Microsoft 365 & Identity

  • Own and administer the organization's Microsoft 365 tenant, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive
  • Lead identity and access management strategy using Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), including Conditional Access, MFA, PIM, and SSO integrations
  • Manage and enforce device compliance and security policies through Microsoft Intune (Endpoint Manager)
  • Maintain and mature the organization's Zero Trust posture through identity-driven security controls

Azure Infrastructure

  • Administer and support Azure-based internal infrastructure and services
  • Support and oversee Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments used internally
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams where internal IT infrastructure intersects with Azure workloads

Endpoint & Device Management

  • Oversee global endpoint management strategy via Intune, including device enrollment, configuration profiles, compliance policies, and app deployment
  • Support a globally distributed, primarily remote workforce across multiple device platforms

Tools & Platforms

  • Leverage Nerdio Manager for MSP and related Nerdio tooling where applicable to internal operations
  • Evaluate and recommend tooling to improve IT efficiency, security, and user experience

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in IT systems administration or engineering
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 administration across core workloads
  • Deep expertise in Microsoft Entra ID — including identity governance, Conditional Access, PIM, and hybrid identity
  • Proficient in Microsoft Intune — device enrollment, compliance policy, configuration profiles, and app management
  • Experience managing IT in a globally distributed organization
  • Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring IT staff
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills
  • Candidates must hold the Microsoft Azure Administrator (AZ-104) certification, or must obtain it within the first 90 days of employment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) — deployment, management, and optimization
  • Experience with Nerdio Manager for MSP or Nerdio Manager for Enterprise
  • Additional Microsoft certifications (e.g., MS-102, SC-300, AZ-140) are a strong plus
  • Familiarity with IT security frameworks (Zero Trust, NIST, CIS)
  • Experience supporting PaaS-first, remote-first company environments
  • Scripting or automation experience (PowerShell, Azure CLI, Graph API, Python)

Benefits and Incentives

  • Competitive Base and Incentive Plan
  • Stock Options
  • Health and Welfare Plans*
  • Life and Disability Plans*
  • Retirement Plan*
  • Unlimited Flexible Paid Time Off, including your birthday off!
  • Collaborative Team Culture

* Benefits for international employees, outside the US, vary by country.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
