Sonder (NASDAQ: SOND) is a leading global hospitality brand, offering premium, design-forward apartments and intimate boutique hotels for the modern, savvy traveler. Founded in 2014, Sonder combines thoughtfully designed spaces with seamless, tech-enabled service — all delivered through a single, beautifully integrated experience.

Our properties are located in the world’s most sought-after neighborhoods, spanning 40+ markets across nine countries and three continents. Through the Sonder app, guests enjoy full control over their stay — from self check-in to 24/7 support — making every detail of travel easier, more flexible, and more inspiring.

In 2024, we announced a strategic partnership with Marriott International, bringing Sonder properties to Marriott.com and the Marriott Bonvoy app. This integration connects our inventory and front of house and back of house systems with the world’s largest travel loyalty platform — unlocking exciting new possibilities for our guests and employees.

Sonder is focused on delivering amazing experiences for the modern traveler while driving smart, sustainable growth. Our team blends the agility of a tech company with the standards of a global hospitality brand — and we’re building something that’s reshaping the future of travel.

As the Hospitality Systems Manager, you will oversee all core hospitality platforms that power Sonder’s global operations, including Oracle Opera Cloud, Marriott MARSHA integrations, payment processing systems, tax automation, and property-level reporting tools.  You will lead a team of system specialists and act as a bridge between technology, operations, finance, and revenue management, ensuring our platforms are reliable, scalable, and aligned with business strategy. This role is pivotal to delivering a seamless guest experience while maintaining compliance, operational excellence, and rapid growth.  This position is both hands-on and strategic. You’ll define the roadmap for hospitality systems, manage vendor relationships, and drive process improvements across properties worldwide. You’ll also lead major initiatives such as new property onboarding, system migrations, integrations, and upgrades.

The Opportunity:

  • Lead and develop the Hospitality Systems team, providing guidance, mentorship, and operational support across all properties and regions.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for Oracle Opera Cloud and other core hospitality platforms, ensuring accurate configurations and smooth day-to-day operations.

  • Oversee integrations with external systems, including Marriott MARSHA, Stripe (payments), Avalara (tax automation), etc.

  • Drive process standardization and scalability, acting as a stakeholder for Central teams creating global SOPs and documentation for system usage and property operations.

  • Partner with stakeholders across Finance, Revenue Management, Operations, and within IT to align system functionality with business needs and financial goals.

  • Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, monitor SLAs, and ensure proper vendor performance for mission-critical systems.

  • Collaborate with Security and Compliance teams to maintain PCI, GDPR, and other regulatory compliance across all hospitality systems.

  • Provide oversight for system performance and reporting, proactively identifying issues and ensuring minimal downtime and disruptions.

  • Act as the escalation point for complex, cross-system issues, ensuring quick resolution and clear communication with stakeholders.

  • Plan and execute major system projects, such as new integrations, system migrations, or global configuration changes, delivering on time and within budget.

Who we look for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 5+ years managing hospitality systems, with deep expertise in Oracle Opera PMS (Opera Cloud preferred).

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams in a multi-property hospitality environment, with a focus on operational excellence and guest experience.

  • Strong understanding of hotel operations, including reservations, front desk, revenue management, and financial reconciliation processes.

  • Experience with integrations between PMS, payment gateways, tax automation platforms, and distribution systems.

  • Proven track record of vendor management, including contract negotiations and SLA oversight.

  • Skilled communicator who can work cross-functionally with leadership teams across Finance, Operations, Revenue Management, and IT.

  • Knowledge of hospitality compliance standards such as PCI DSS, GDPR, and other privacy/security frameworks.

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, rapidly scaling environment with the ability to balance hands-on problem-solving and strategic planning.

  • Familiarity with Marriott technology ecosystem (e.g., MARSHA), payment processors like Stripe, and hospitality tax tools like Avalara is a strong plus.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
