About the role

Shinkei Systems is hiring a paid, year-round IT Intern at our El Segundo, CA office. You'll work hands-on with our IT lead to support a fast-moving robotics team, keep people productive and help protect company data.

This isn't a shadow-only internship. From your first weeks you'll own real tickets, set up real laptops and help build the processes that keep our accounts, network and office secure. You'll report to the IT lead and work alongside our managed IT partner.

What you'll do

Help desk and end-user support

  • Answer and resolve IT requests from employees in person and over Slack

  • Troubleshoot accounts, passwords, multi-factor authentication, email, calendars and shared drives

  • Diagnose and fix issues on macOS and Windows laptops, monitors, docks and printers

  • Escalate complex issues to the IT lead or our managed IT partner, with clear notes

Onboarding and offboarding

  • Set up accounts, groups and app access for new hires, and prepare their laptops and desks before day one

  • Walk new employees through their IT setup and security basics

  • Remove access completely and on time when people leave, and collect and wipe their equipment

  • Keep onboarding and offboarding checklists accurate and up to date

Network and physical security

  • Help maintain the office network: Wi-Fi, switches and access points

  • Help manage door access badges and permissions, and keep security cameras working

  • Spot and report network or connectivity issues before they slow people down

Security and compliance

  • Tag and track every company device in the hardware inventory

  • Help with regular reviews of who has access to which systems

  • Support security awareness training and follow-ups

  • Follow strict data confidentiality practices in everything you touch

Documentation

  • Write clear how-to guides and troubleshooting articles for our internal knowledge base

  • Turn repeat tickets into self-service fixes

Tools you'll work with

You don't need to know these already. We'll train you on everything.

  • Google Workspace: Gmail, Calendar, Drive, groups and the Admin console

  • Slack: company chat and IT support requests

  • Freshservice: IT ticketing, asset tracking and the knowledge base

  • Adaptive: security awareness training

  • macOS and Windows laptops and peripherals

  • Business network equipment, door access and camera systems

  • Single sign-on (SSO), multi-factor authentication and VPN tools

  • HR, project-management and engineering software used across the company

What you'll need

Required

  • Basic troubleshooting skills on macOS or Windows

  • Clear, patient communication with non-technical people

  • Strong attention to detail, and good judgment when handling confidential information

  • Able to work on site in El Segundo and lift up to 25 lbs (laptops, monitors, network gear)

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience from a help desk job, campus IT, a home lab or personal projects

  • Familiarity with Google Workspace administration

  • Basic networking knowledge (IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi)

  • Progress toward a certification such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+ or Google IT Support

  • Interest in security, identity and access management, or IT for hardware and robotics companies

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
