Job Description:

Job Summary

Knowledge of skills required to provision, manage, monitor, and decommission cloud services. The IT Infrastructure Engineer role requires knowledge and experience around technologies and techniques for automating provision and management of infrastructure in a distributed environment through scripting.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Acquire, configure, and maintain development, test, and production servers. Support development, test, and production servers including after-hours support and monitoring server usage and up-time.

• Interface with vendors to obtain required equipment and software in a timely manner while ensuring proper audit and budget controls are met.

• Strong scripting skillset.

• Multi-tier architectures: load balancers, caching, web servers, application servers, databases, and networking.

• Designs, implements, and maintains high performing, highly available systems to meet the firms functional and cost requirements, as defined by the overall system architecture specifications and in accordance with the service level and/or operation level agreements and established best practices.

• Familiarity developing with RESTful API interfaces.

• Basic understanding of relational and non-relational databases.

• Familiarity with messaging and queuing services.

• Infrastructure as Code: design and security, configuration management, integration, deployment, performance monitoring and tuning, automation of infrastructure. 

• Provide technical and procedural direction to the company for the actual implementation of the network servers used, as well as interface with internal users, development personnel and other technical staff.

• Provide direction in complex problem-solving situations and participate in direct interaction with internal staff as required. Identify process improvement opportunities achievable through the optimum use of the servers.

• Build and maintain material describing activity levels and possible next steps required for each server. Act as liaison for internal and external communications directly with departments as required. Provide regular status reports and gather requirements from departments and provide input into the infrastructure products that are bought or built. Provide technical support for voice and data network systems.

• Provide design and technical support for voice, IM, meeting, and presence environments.

• Advanced engineering, administration, and maintenance of multiprotocol routers, multilayer switches, network security devices and network management systems.

• Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.

• Collaborate with Operations, Quality Assurance, and third-party data centers to provide technical direction on network topologies, server configurations, hardware / software deployments, firewall configurations, and other administrative tasks related to the staging and maintenance of our development, testing, and production servers.

• Ensure timely and effective delivery of hardware upgrades, network upgrades, and new configurations.

• Document technical requirements, develop and oversee project plans and implement change control procedures. Facilitate design sessions and architectural reviews. Participate in technical advisory roles, as required. Mentor associates and foster a learning and growth environment.

• Interact with customers at the technical level, as required.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Strong record of managing\completing projects across various computing platforms

• Strong skills in written and oral communication and critical thinking

• Ability to handle multiple projects/assignments concurrently and be very results oriented.

• Highly motivated and work well both independently and in a team environment.

• Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.

• Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

• Demonstrates ethical behavior and critical thinking and sound judgment in making decisions in accordance with professional standards

• Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products as required.

• On-call availability for roughly 1 week per month.

• Occasional travel between training locations required.

Education and Experience:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree – Computer Networking (or related area) 

Experience: 3+ years - In maintaining and supporting a Microsoft environment 

in Azure, clustering, communications, storage, and virtualization technologies.  

Physical Requirement 

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer 

• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components. 

• Occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings. 

• Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
