About Coefficient Giving

Coefficient Giving (formerly Open Philanthropy) is a philanthropic funder and advisor. Since 2014, we’ve directed over $5 billion in grants as part of our mission to help others as much as we can with the resources available to us. We work with a range of donors who share our commitment to cost-effective, high-impact giving. Our current funds include Science and Global Health R&D, Navigating Transformative Artificial Intelligence, Abundance & Growth, Farm Animal Welfare, Biosecurity & Pandemic Preparedness, and more. In 2025, we recommended more than $1 billion to high-impact causes.

We’re proud of our track record:

  • Our grants to evidence-backed global health programs have saved over 100,000 lives, and our farm animal welfare grants have improved the lives of over 3 billion animals.

  • We supported late-stage clinical trials for the R21 malaria vaccine, now being scaled to protect millions of kids globally.

  • We were the earliest major funder of the YIMBY movement to build more housing. Our grantees have led the charge on major wins like City of Yes in New York, and SB 79 in California, which will enable hundreds of thousands of new housing units.

  • We jump-started the field of AI safety and security and have played a vital role in addressing other existential threats, such as mirror bacteria.

About the Roles

The IT team sits within Operations and is managed by our IT Lead, Luke Willey. We are hiring three new team members to maintain our IT infrastructure, provide technical support, and ensure the smooth operation of our internal helpdesk.

Coefficient Giving’s tech ecosystem is wonderfully broad, flexible, and ever-expanding. While expertise in specific technologies or platforms is welcomed, these roles require highly versatile IT professionals with a proactive approach, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fully remote, macOS environment.

We expect to make two hires at the IT Associate level and one hire at the Senior IT Associate level. Candidates for either level are encouraged to apply to this opening; prior experience and performance in our evaluation process will inform which level is the best fit. Both the IT Associate and the Senior IT Associate will own a combination of core IT functions and special projects, spending roughly half their time in each area. The Senior IT Associate may also manage 2–3 direct reports and assume ownership of key IT workstreams.

In either role, your portfolio will be shaped by your unique strengths and expertise, though we expect all successful candidates to be comfortable continuously learning new technologies.

Core IT responsibilities include:

  • Helpdesk administration — Provide technical support to staff, resolving IT issues promptly and efficiently to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

  • Infrastructure maintenance — Maintain our IT infrastructure in a fully macOS environment, ensuring the stability and reliability of our systems.

  • Security — Implement and maintain security measures to protect organizational data and systems, including device management and cloud security, to safeguard our digital assets.

  • Device management — Manage organization-owned Mac laptops, enforce MDM policies, and oversee mobile device management to ensure all devices are secure and functioning properly.

  • Tech enablement — Identify and implement productivity-enhancing technologies to support organizational efficiency while maintaining security standards.

  • Vendor coordination — Work with external vendors and consultants to manage projects and ensure the delivery of high-quality IT services and solutions.

  • Documentation — Maintain accurate records of IT systems, configurations, and procedures to support efficient operations and continuity.

IT special projects vary significantly in scope and subject, but may include:

  • Security tooling/incident response — Take a security tool from evaluation > purchase > implementation > documentation > steady-state.

  • Business app building and workflow migration — Gather requirements from non-technical teams, design a workable data model, implement automations and integrations, and then ship iteratively to support ongoing operations. Help teams identify opportunities to leverage AI tools for efficiency gains within the new workflow.

  • End-user services, procurement, and onboarding improvements — Through ticket resolution and onboarding work, proactively identify frictions and opportunities to improve overall throughput and quality.

  • Managing infrastructure — Spin up new domains and Google Cloud projects and connect tools securely to enable new workflows and processes.

Who might be a good fit

You might be a great fit for this work if you:

  • Have a track record of owning projects and proactively getting them over the finish line.

  • Are intensely detail-oriented; you can confidently track and update system configurations without making mistakes.

  • Are cheerful and patient while helping others with technical issues.

  • See internal stakeholders as customers, and make sure they walk away feeling helped whenever they come into contact with you or your team.

  • Can work consultatively with senior staff and understand what they actually need — not just what they ask for — and confidently recommend the right technical solution even when it differs from what was originally requested.

  • Are comfortable navigating sensitive conversations around IT issues and can be trusted with confidential information (e.g. security protocols, user data).

  • Understand the importance of a strong organizational culture and feel excited to support a tech culture that balances flexibility and security.

  • Take pride in helping colleagues do their best work, and are energized by supporting work and people that tackle some of the world's most pressing problems.

Ideal applicants will have at least 3–5 years of experience in IT support or a similar role. This duration of experience is not strictly required, but is likely to be helpful. To be considered for the Senior IT Associate level, we expect strong candidates to additionally have:

  • 2+ years of experience managing a technical team and upholding high standards in IT support or related domains.

  • Ability to form strong judgment and clearly communicate reasoning on decisions involving technical governance and policy development, especially when balancing risk mitigation with operational efficiency.

  • Comfort with coaching and mentoring direct reports who work with a high level of independence.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess many of the skills and experiences described above. However, there is no such thing as a “perfect” candidate. If you are on the fence about applying because you are unsure whether you are qualified, we strongly encourage you to apply. Above all, we are looking for people motivated to contribute to our operating values and mission of helping others as much as we can with the resources available to us. Whatever background you bring with you, please apply if this role would make you excited to come to work every day.

Role details & benefits
  • Compensation: For the IT Associate level, total compensation would be $130,525, which would be distributed as a base salary of $113,500.00 and an unconditional 401(k) grant of $17,025.00 for U.S. hires. For the Senior IT Associate level, total compensation would be $155,825.00, comprising a base salary of $135,500.00 and an unconditional 401(k) grant of $20,325.00 for U.S. hires.

    • These compensation figures assume a remote location; there would be geographic adjustments upwards for candidates who are based in the San Francisco Bay Area or Washington, D.C. and are willing to work from our local office approximately two days per week or more.

    • All compensation will be distributed as take-home salary for internationally based hires.

  • Time zones and location: You can work remotely in this role. While much of our team is based in the US, we are open to hires outside the US willing to consistently overlap with US hours for at least half the workday. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas for this role.

  • Benefits: Our benefits package includes:

    • Excellent health insurance (we cover 100% of premiums within the U.S. for you and any eligible dependents) and an employer-funded Health Reimbursement Arrangement for certain other personal health expenses.

    • Dental, vision, and life insurance for you and your family.

    • Four weeks of PTO recommended per year.

    • Four months of fully paid family leave.

    • A generous and flexible expense policy — we encourage staff to expense the ergonomic equipment, software, and other services that they need to stay healthy and productive. This policy also includes a productivity benefit, which provides a set amount for staff to expense items that enhance their productivity.

    • A continual learning policy that encourages staff to spend time on professional development with related expenses covered.

    • Support for remote work — we’ll cover a remote workspace outside your home if you need one, or connect you with a Coefficient Giving coworking hub in your city. We currently have offices in San Francisco and Washington, D.C., and multiple staff working from several other cities in the U.S. and elsewhere.

    • We can’t always provide every benefit we offer U.S. staff to international hires, but we’re working on it (and will usually provide cash equivalents of any benefits we can’t offer in your country).

  • Start date: We’d like a candidate to start as soon as possible after receiving an offer. We currently plan to make offers in July.

We aim to employ people with many different experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds who share our passion for accomplishing as much good as we can. We are committed to creating an environment where all employees have the opportunity to succeed, and we do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or any other legally protected status.

If you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, or have any other questions about applying, please contact [email protected].

Please apply by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, May 24th, 2026 to be considered.

U.S.-based operations staff are typically employed by Coefficient Giving LLC, which is not a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. As such, this role is unlikely to be eligible for public service loan forgiveness programs.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
