Ribbon Communications is seeking a highly skilled IP Optical Sales Engineer to support our strategic expansion in the IP Optical market. This role focuses on advanced network infrastructure—including IP/MPLS routing, packet transport, and optical networking solutions—and works closely with account teams to develop business opportunities across U.S. Regional and Rural Service Providers and Datacenters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead pre-sales activities including network design, architecture development, and solution delivery for service providers

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in IP/MPLS, packet transport, and optical networking technologies

  • Promote Ribbon’s value proposition in Rural Broadband Middle Mile and Mobile Backhaul initiatives

  • Develop tailored network solutions using Ribbon and third-party products to meet customer requirements

  • Provide regional pre-sales support for Ribbon’s IP Optical product lines

  • Collaborate with Marketing, Commercial, and Product Management teams to align technical solutions with business strategies

  • Deliver technical presentations and demonstrations to prospective clients

  • Lead high- and low-level network design engagements with customers

  • Coordinate lab trials and proofs of concept to validate Ribbon’s technology offerings

Required Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizen Required

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Telecom Sales Engineering or Product Line Management

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field

  • Strong pre-sales experience in L1–L3 Network Engineering

  • Expertise in IP/MPLS network protocols, including:

    • IPv4/IPv6, OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, RSVP, LDP (FRR), QoS, Multicast-LU, BGP-LS/PCEP, Segment Routing

  • Understanding of network services: L2VPN, L3VPN, EVPN

  • Ability to build strong relationships with customers and communicate complex concepts effectively

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications
  • Industry certifications (e.g., Juniper, Cisco)

  • Experience with Mobile Networks (4G, 5G)

  • Knowledge of MPLS-TP and Carrier Ethernet solutions

  • Hands-on experience with lab evaluations and proof-of-concept trials

  • Familiarity with U.S. government broadband expansion programs

  • Understanding of network automation and software-defined networking
