Company

Alphataraxia Management (ATX) is a fast-growing quantitative investment management group with offices in both Washington, DC and Downtown Los Angeles, CA. We specialize in wholesale electricity markets, where extreme volatility is the norm and the marketplace is constantly evolving, presenting new opportunities for growth and insight. We are currently one of the top participants in the power markets and are looking for hard-working candidates with genuine enthusiasm for solving complex problems to join our collaborative and high-caliber team. Here’s a little bit more about us:

  • We love to explain how things work both fundamentally and quantitatively.
  • We build all our own proprietary tools, enabling us to prototype, iterate quickly, and pivot when necessary.
  • We automate as many redundant processes as possible to maximize time spent on analysis, moving with minimal bureaucracy and a high level of ownership.
  • We take immense pride in our company values—you can learn more about them here.

Job Description

We are looking for graduating seniors who enjoy solving complex, real-world problems to join ATX as Analysts. Applicants who are comfortable with numbers, rigorous analysis, and the basics of programming will thrive in our information-rich environment. You will get to:

  • Manage massive amounts of information and come to targeted conclusions about our markets in order to transact.
  • Refine existing investment strategies, and eventually grow to develop and recommend new strategies.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to research and recommend investment decisions.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the performance of investment strategies and market outcomes, with an eye toward continuous improvement.
  • Perform data analysis.
  • Conduct market research to develop deep expertise in power production and consumption.
  • Identify emerging market trends and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and implement data-driven solutions.
  • Create detailed reports and presentations to communicate results and recommendations.

Applicant requirements

Analysts can expect intellectual challenges that derive from poorly understood dynamics in our target markets, and they will be critical in scaling the firm’s understanding of how these markets “really work.” A successful analyst will begin by refining existing investment strategies and will grow to develop new strategies.

  • A strong academic record and high quantitative aptitude. Background or major in STEM required.
  • A passion for creative problem-solving and a competitive spirit.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with basic coding concepts, such as those taught in an intro computer science course.
  • An ability to work in person on a hybrid schedule (three days per week in-office) in either our DC or LA office.
  • An interest or background in energy, electricity, or engineering (preferred but not required)
  • A 3.5 minimum GPA

Benefits

We strive to offer best-in-class compensation and benefits alongside a supportive company culture.

  • $110,000 annual salary; annual discretionary bonus / signing bonus
  • 20 paid vacation days + 7 paid federal holidays
  • Excellent health, dental, and vision insurance (including HSA option) with no monthly premiums for best-in-class platinum individual plan
  • 401k match -- 100% company matching on the first 4% of deferrals with immediate vesting
  • Annual firmwide weeklong summit
  • Fully remote work option for the month of July and between Thanksgiving and New Years
  • Casual environment (informal attire)
  • Snacks and unlimited coffee in the office
  • Firm-sponsored social events including happy hours, lunches, book club, and more!

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
