Overview of the Job
The Arcules UX design team is focused on empowering users. They work closely with product managers and engineers to shape new features, and create a seamless user experience across our web and mobile applications. UX designers are responsible for the entire design lifecycle, including user research, user interface design, and usability testing.
An ideal intern will bring a fresh design perspective, and an eagerness to learn by doing. In exchange, you will receive mentorship and coaching as you build real world skills. Along with working to improve Arcules applications, you will also enhance your portfolio as you plan and manage your own design project.
You will report to the Senior User Experience Designer and will collaborate closely with your colleagues in design, product, and engineering.
This is a part-time internship during the summer (10 weeks, approximately 20 hours/week). Start/end dates can be flexible around your school calendar, beginning as early as May and ending by mid-August.
This role can be remote working Pacific time, work in our Irvine, CA headquarters, or a hybrid. Due to COVID-19, our office is following strict safety protocols, and this team primarily works remotely.

Details
- Design user interfaces and clickable prototypes for web, iOS, and Android applications
- Participate in user interviews and usability testing, and provide thoughtful analysis
- Participate in design ideation and create deliverables such as flow charts, user flows, journey maps, and affinity diagrams as needed
- Collaborate closely with product managers and software engineers
- Utilize and help improve our growing component library
- Plan, manage and deliver your own UX project over the course of the internship to add to your design portfolio
Minimum Qualifications
- One of the following, as of Summer 2022:
- Recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree in user experience or related field (HCI, informatics, graphic communication, psychology, computer science or similar)
- Rising senior pursuing a bachelor’s in a related field
- Recent boot camp graduate focused on user experience, user interface and/or product design.
- Recently completed UX design certificate (Google, university, or similar)
- Completed coursework in both user research and product design
- Online portfolio with case studies demonstrating an understanding of user-centered design and strong visual design principles
Desired Skills
- Experience designing and prototyping with Figma is a plus, with a desire to improve your skills
- Comfortable collaborating in the cloud with tools like Miro, Google Workspace and Slack
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to present to a group, document your work, and communicate with remote team members
- No coding is necessary in this role, but an understanding of software development principles, cloud technology and/or agile software development is a plus
