Outer is a venture-backed startup based in Santa Monica, California on a mission to get people outside and inspire healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives by creating innovative outdoor furniture.

THE ROLE

Outer is seeking a Marketing & Communications Intern to help build and scale our global communications and partnerships programs. The ideal candidate has exceptional verbal and written communication skills and is hyper-organized, creative, collaborative, and a problem solver. This role will report to the Senior Communications Manager.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

• Hands-on learning strategic communication, project management, and digital advertising skills
• Working closely with our U.S. and Australian PR agencies, as well as cross-functional partners, to plan and implement PR campaigns, strategic partnerships & events
• Supporting brand and product partnerships with key celebrities, publications & other brandsCompiling product and campaign launch details for media outreach, editor seeding, tracking, and reporting
• Helping grow the Outer Spaces blog by developing content ideas, tracking content creation, and copyediting blog posts Supporting content creation and tracking for Outer advertising placements, including external newsletters (e.g. The Skimm), podcasts, and television
• Researching, outlining, writing, editing and proofreading materials; ensuring quality and consistency with appropriate writing styles
• Sourcing and sharing competitive research and insights to help Outer become the go-to outdoor lifestyle brand 
• Furthering Outer’s mission to help people live better outside

WHO YOU ARE

• Actively working towards a Bachelor's degree in Public Relations or Communications, or a related field
• Love interacting with new people and are comfortable working within a team environment
• Proactive self-starter with a "can-do" attitude and strong entrepreneurial hustle. Must be eager to roll up your sleeves in a fast-paced environment
• Exhibit attention to detail through strong organizational and time management skills
• Have strong verbal and written communication skills
• Passionate about storytelling, press, and media consumption
• Have a firm grasp of social media channels and news sources
• Over the age of 18 and authorized to work in the United States
• Optional: Experience with marketing tools such as Google Analytics, ShareASale, and Skimlinks; knowledge of marketing metrics and best practices

ABOUT OUTER

Outer started by creating the perfect outdoor sofa: beautiful, durable, comfortable, and innovative. We also invented a new model for retail because we believe that the furniture buying experience can be much better than stale, traditional showrooms with four walls, fluorescent lighting, and pushy salespeople. Our Neighborhood Showroom platform turns our customers' backyards into our physical showrooms where our customers can see, touch, and feel our products in a real backyard alongside a real customer (think: Airbnb meets retail).
