Position Summary

The internal tax group is responsible for the firm’s tax matters.  As the International Tax Manager, you will oversee aspects of the firm’s U.S. tax compliance and tax provision processes while coordinating closely with Grant Thornton member firms around the world. You’ll work directly with senior leadership and collaborate with teams across multiple jurisdictions to ensure the firm meets its tax obligations, maintains a strong control environment, and executes high‑quality tax reporting in a consistent, efficient, and globally aligned manner.  This role requires handling highly confidential information related to the firm and its partners, and maintaining strict confidentiality is essential.

From the start, you’ll have access to formal training, on‑the‑job learning, and deep technical resources across the Grant Thornton network, helping you build a broad and sophisticated skill set that strengthens both your technical expertise and your business acumen. Your day-to-day may include:

  • Managing the firm’s U.S. tax compliance and tax provision processes, including internal tax positions, filing requirements, and co-sourced engagements supporting provision and compliance needs
  • Planning and executing U.S. tax projects while coordinating with global member firms to ensure alignment on cross‑border tax matters
  • Advising on the U.S. tax implications of international operations, including the interaction of U.S. and foreign tax rules to support efficient global tax strategies via transfer pricing and capital structures, among others
  • Reviewing complex U.S. tax returns and related workpapers to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to quality standards
  • Collaborating with partners, managers, and teams across the network, demonstrating a desire to learn from others and proactively support colleagues working in Federal, state, and other tax disciplines
  • Performing additional responsibilities as needed to support the firm’s tax function and global coordination efforts

You have the following technical skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Minimum five to seven years of progressive tax consulting experience, preferably with at least three years focused on international taxation
  • Experience with a large accounting firm, law firm, or corporate tax department of a multinational company
  • CPA or JD/active law license required
  • Excellent analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills with proficiency in U.S. tax compliance and consulting
  • Strong computer expertise including knowledge of tax software and technology
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Can travel as needed

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
