Job Summary

Are you passionate about transportation engineering and planning? TYLin is looking for a Transportation/Traffic Engineering Intern to join our Oakland office for the Summer of 2025. As an intern on our City Solutions Team, you'll gain the opportunity to immerse yourself in diverse infrastructure projects, which may include traffic impact studies, traffic operations modeling, bike and pedestrian plans, parking studies, transportation data analysis (origin-destination flows, demand modeling, data visualization), transit planning, and airport landside operations. This internship is your chance to be part of a collaborative community where you can expand your knowledge and sharpen your skills through hands-on meaningful work.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You Will Do

  • Conduct site visits, field observations to gather data and provide research
  • Perform traffic, pedestrian, parking and safety analyses Use software to aid project analyses and make informed recommendations
  • Engage with the public and stakeholders to gather input and provide updates
  • Create and develop maps, reports, presentations, and graphics Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms, including the development of maps, reports, presentations, and graphics
  • Contribute to problem-solving efforts to address project-related issues
  • Draft and finalize detailed reports summarizing findings and recommendations

What You Bring to the Team

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with a proven ability to efficiently prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing clear documentation and interacting professionally with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also able to effectively collaborate in a team environment
  • Strong commitment to integrity, consistently demonstrating ethical, fair, and responsible behavior
  • Commitment to innovation and continuous learning, with a passion for acquiring new skills and driving improvements

Your Education and Experience

  • Working towards a Transportation or Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Urban Design, or Public Policy Undergraduate Degree or related Graduate Program
  • Interest or knowledge of transportation engineering/planning practices
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required
  • Familiarity with the following: traffic operations software (Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, HCS), Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign), ArcGIS, drafting software (AutoCAD, MicroStation), data analytics and automation (Python, database management, automated reporting)
