The Implementation team in Arm's CPU group improves the power, performance, and area on industry-leading CPU cores using innovative physical design techniques. We also define future chip design techniques, create the design flows, influence Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools, and build the knowledge base that makes high-performance chip design possible. Our work spans across interdisciplinary teams and technology nodes where we drive improved implementation for Arm and our partners. A key component of this is around the development of comprehensive implementation and analysis methodologies.
What you could be doing as an Implementation Intern?
Interns work closely with our hardworking and experienced engineers to help craft innovative technology. Intern projects are real engineering work! You will gain knowledge and take on challenges while being able to encounter opportunities to work on all aspects of product development.
  • Assist with physical design and implementation of CPU cores.
  • Investigate Power, Performance, Area, Time (PPAT) to market and Yield (PPATY) tradeoffs involved in implementation.
  • Develop and deploy new methodologies to improve implementation efficiency and results.
  • Work with implementation and physical IP RTL design teams to drive analysis and optimization of our IP.

We are looking for individuals who:
Are currently enrolled and studying towards an Electrical or Computer Engineering Degree (Bachelors or Masters students welcome). Candidates with alternative degrees will also be considered if they have relevant experience.
Qualities that will help your application stand out:
  • Knowledge of Unix, Perl, Tcl and VHDL/Verilog.
  • Experience with EDA tools (Cadence, Synopsys and Mentor Graphics).
  • Ability to demonstrate that you can express new insights and communicate them optimally.
  • Good interpersonal skills with an analytical approach.
  • Be motivated to continuously develop skills and accept a variety of responsibilities as part of contributing to the design center's success.

Additional Information:
We encourage early applications as we review them on a first come/first served basis.
Arm Internships require you to be enrolled in a higher education degree and be returning to your course after your internship/placement.
If you are graduating in Spring 2026, you will not be eligible for an Intern role but you will be eligible for our graduate roles. Our graduate roles will be advertised on the Arm Early Careers website.
In Return:
Working on interesting new projects with leaders in the field is exciting, but we also know how important it is to receive support. That's why throughout your internship, you can expect regular feedback and development opportunities, social activities to connect with your peers, an end of internship celebration, plus the opportunity to be *considered for future Graduate positions (*subject to performance). #getreadytogrow

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
