This internship is a unique opportunity for an undergraduate student to learn about the use of Clinical Outcomes Assessments (COAs) and qualitative interviews to characterize the impact of rare diseases and the effect of interventions on patients and their families. Final project will be an abstract and poster for internal presentation and submission to a rare disease conference and a first draft of a manuscript for submission to a rare disease or pediatric journal.
Work Model:Remote: Officially documented as working full-time from home, with travel to Ultragenyx's offices or other locations on occasion as needed.
Responsibilities:- Conduct literature reviews to identify publications on the diagnostic journey, clinical presentation, assessment and management of children with a rare disease.
- Review interview transcripts to gain insight into the disease from the perspective of a caregiver.
- Learn about the structure and content of abstracts, poster presentations and manuscripts.
- Review, analyze and interpret cross-sectional, observational data from a cohort of patients.
- Develop draft abstract, poster presentation and manuscript.
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or medical field, with at least one year of coursework completed. MS and PharmD students are also eligible.
- Enrolled as a full-time student with plans to return to school in the fall term
- Able to work 35 hours/week – flexible schedule
- Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong organizational skills
- Attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to write clearly and effectively
- Capable of completing assigned responsibilities and keeping manager informed of work status.
U.S. Hourly Wage Range:
- $22.00-$40.00 per hour. The estimated hourly range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual hourly wage offered will depend on the candidate’s school year/level.
