Job Description

We are seeking a year round Digital Product Strategy Intern to help us research, analyze, and propose innovative digital solutions in areas such as distributed energy resources (DERs), DER management systems (DERMs), demand flexibility, grid flexibility, grid resilience, and energy transition technologies. This role is ideal for a graduate student (or advanced undergraduate) who wants to combine energy systems knowledge, market research, and digital product thinking to shape the future of the grid.

Candidates based in Austin, TX preferred for biweekly onsite meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct market and technology research on emerging digital solutions for DERs, DERMs, VPPs, energy transition, grid resilience, and grid flexibility. 
  • Map the competitive landscape and identify gaps/opportunities for new products.
  • Analyze technology trends, standards, and regulations (OpenADR, IEEE 2030.5, FERC, PUC rulings).
  • Develop opportunity briefs and business cases for potential products and services.
  • Draft simple product requirement outlines (PRDs, feature sets, MVP concepts) for internal review.
  • Present findings and recommendations to product, technology, and leadership teams.​

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s (preferred) or advanced undergraduate program in:
    • Energy Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline.
    • MBA/MS students with a focus on energy, technology, or sustainability also encouraged to apply.
  • Strong analytical and research skills; ability to synthesize technical and business information.
  • Familiarity with energy transition concepts (DER, DERMs, demand response, microgrids, VPPs).
  • Interest and knowledge in digital platforms, APIs, IoT, and AI/ML applications in the energy sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (presentation and storytelling ability a plus).

$17.85 - $24.00
