NEXT’s mission is to help entrepreneurs thrive. We’re doing that by building the only technology-led, full-stack provider of small business insurance in the industry, taking on the entire value chain and transforming the customer experience.

Simply put, wherever you find small businesses, you’ll find NEXT.

Since 2016, we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of small business customers across the United States get fast, customized and affordable coverage. We’re backed by industry leaders in insurance and tech, and we still have room to grow — that’s where you come in.

We're inviting an experienced and strategic Insurance Product Manager to join our Liability team to lead development of new products tailored for the Small Commercial P&C Construction market. This is a highly visible and cross-functional position where you will shape appetite, pricing, and underwriting rules for a segment of risks that our admitted products cannot fully serve, and play a key role in helping NEXT expand its platform to serve more complex small businesses. If you are passionate about building underwriting logic, digging into data, and helping a tech-forward company deliver modern insurance products—we’d love to talk to you!

What You’ll Do:

  • Act as a leading authority on our P&C coverage offerings for Construction, initially focused on Construction GL, managing coverage, pricing, underwriting logic, and regulatory compliance.
  • Define Construction appetite and segmentation strategy, with strong alignment to loss drivers and data-informed underwriting decisions
  • Partner with actuarial, engineering, and data science on automated risk selection and underwriting process.
  • Ensure product and process compliance and build scalable operations for future products and enhancements.
  • Conduct industry research, competitive benchmarking, and broker/customer interviews to identify high-impact use cases and coverage gaps.
  • Optimize for profit/growth by fine-tuning rating, tailoring forms, and expanding customer segments.
  • Communicate product performance, trends, and strategy to leadership and cross-functional partners.

What We Need:

  • 8+ years of Commercial Insurance experience in product management, underwriting, actuarial, or risk management; Construction GL experience is a major plus.
  • Familiarity with the Construction admitted and E&S markets with respect to operational, regulatory, and underwriting nuances.
  • Experience optimizing and pricing segmented products using data, modeling, and loss ratio analysis.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, creative in building solutions, and rigorous in execution.
  • Clear, structured communication skills for both technical and non-technical leadership audiences.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple work streams across multiple functions.
  • BA/BS degree; advanced degree (MBA, MS) or insurance certifications (e.g., CPCU, ARe) are a plus.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
