SafeLease is an insurance technology company that specializes in commercial real estate.

We focus on insurance products for the self-storage industry but are rapidly expanding our suite of services. We believe traditional commercial insurance can be distributed faster and cheaper. To do that, we’ve brought the entire insurance value chain—distribution, underwriting, and reinsurance—under one roof to drive innovation in an industry that’s ripe for change.

We’re hiring an Insurance Compliance Manager who will ensure our insurance operations stay compliant and smart in all 50 states.

About The Role

In this role, you’ll be the go-to person for making sure our company builds and executes compliance processes to exceed the expectations of our customers, teammates, and regulators nationally.

To drive our mission forward, this role will:

  • Own surplus lines compliance — File taxes, fees, and reports across state and federal levels with speed and accuracy

  • Keep licenses on track — Manage agency and producer licenses across multiple states so nothing slips through the cracks

  • Build better processes — Create and improve compliance workflows and trainings that scale with us

  • Document consistently and stay audit-ready — Run internal audits, keep clean records, and prep clear reports for leadership and regulators

  • Spot risks early — Keep an eye on regulatory changes and help the team stay ahead of the curve

  • Work across teams — Partner with Ops, Finance, GTM, and Product to build smart, compliant solutions, keep individual producer licenses up to date, and roll out ongoing compliance education

  • Coordinate with partners — Make sure carrier and vendor relationships stay aligned with compliance standards

About You

You’ve got a few years of experience in insurance or compliance, know your way around state regulations, and thrive in the details (you might actually enjoy licensing paperwork!).

You’ll bring these skills and strengths:

  • 3+ years of experience in property and casualty insurance compliance; ideally you have ample surplus lines work experience and have built processes from the ground up

  • Comfort navigating state-by-state regulations and licensing processes

  • An incredibly detail-oriented and organized approach

  • Excellent teamwork, ability to explain complex concepts clearly, and follow through

  • Proactivity and drive, but also collaboration—you know when to run solo and when to loop others in

  • Desire to work either a hybrid schedule from our Austin office or entirely remotely after an initial training in Austin

Why SafeLease?

The tech: Our prospects convert fast because we’re solving real problems and delivering serious value to commercial real estate owners.

The team: We’re a team of seasoned pros and sharp operators who know how to move fast and build smart. High standards, low ego.

The stability: We’re well-funded, growing fast, and we make sure our team shares in that success with competitive pay and equity.

The employee experience: We also offer unlimited PTO, full health benefits, flexible work setups, and the kind of culture where people want to show up to do their best work.

If you don't have all the qualifications listed, don't worry! We understand everyone's career path is unique and still encourage you to apply if you feel this role is aligned with your career trajectory.

Employment at SafeLease is contingent upon a satisfactory verification of a general and criminal background check.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
