The Instructional Designer II (ID II) acts as project manager for multiple course design projects. This role forms and leads instructional design teams consisting of divisional staff members and subject matter experts, delegating work to ensure equal responsibility for timely, accurate, high-quality completion of course design and multimedia projects. The ID II chooses and applies appropriate instructional design principles, teaching strategies, and media formats to help develop written scripts/storyboards and transform them into clear, meaningful, engaging educational content for learners. This position stays current with digital design techniques and uses fundamental digital design principles to develop, illustrate, and produce complex visual representations (such as learning objects, course enhancements, eBooks, and video) through the mastery of key software programs and tools.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Instructional Design Coordination:

  • Manages all processes and tasks related to the design and development of online courses according to the College’s development model. Evaluates and assists in the selection and creation of high-quality digital learning assets and eBooks for online learning programs. Identifies appropriate Digital Education & Instructional Services (DEIS) instructional design team for the course, develops complex digital content following faculty design directives, and follows the Digital Production Plan schedule and deadlines. Ensures course development is completed on time and within budget and meets standards of quality. Learns which internal and external stakeholders are involved in program development, then develops and maintains collaborative relationships with them.
  • Models leadership and professionalism in the development/design process, working with an instructional design team. Ensures that quality standards and the College’s vision and mission are reflected in all aspects of the student experience. Develops internal documentation around the theories and processes utilized in the design and development of degree programs.
  • Evaluates and enhances virtual testing processes for the College’s curriculum, ensuring clear guidance for students and faculty on setup, usage, and best practices. Maintains and updates supporting Blackboard content, ensures adoption across all relevant courses each semester, and provides assistance with clear, effective solutions to support a smooth and reliable testing experience.

Instructional Design:

  • Collaborates with subject matter experts to design instructional approaches to course “challenge points,” develops Digital Production Plan, writes scripts, creates storyboards, and works with instructional design team to produce digital learning assets (videos, learning objects, interactive activities, eBooks). Utilizes multiple approaches and modalities in learning in creation of effective digital content that is engaging and interactive, including competency-based learning, mastery learning, active learning and digital storytelling.
  • Applies web accessibility issues and copyright guidelines for all aspects of web courses. Researches and uses the latest techniques in studio and field video production, digital video capturing and editing, and instructional technology tools. Applies and implements evidence-based instructional/curricular development strategies for a given industry to create courses that represent the most current, research-based ideas in education.
  • Reviews and edits curricular materials, including competency statements, learning objectives, and assessments, to construct effective course curricula. Reviews current course of study learning resources and assessments to ensure proper alignment of curricula to the intended objectives.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design, Curriculum, Technology or related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience with online learning technologies and pedagogies, and multimedia design development.
  • State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
