TURN YOUR AUTOMOTIVE OBSESSION INTO A CAREER

Unplugged Performance is the world's leading builder of high-performance and luxury upgrades for Tesla. Every day, Tesla owners from around the world reach out to us to make their car faster, sharper, and more beautiful, and you'd be the person they talk to first.

This isn't a call center. You'll spend your days helping real enthusiasts spec suspension, wheels, aero, and brakes for their cars, then walking alongside them from the first question through delivery and beyond. You're equally comfortable answering a DM in a Tesla owners group at 9pm as you are on the phone at 9am, because you know that's where the next customer is. If you love Teslas, love cars, and love the feeling of helping someone get exactly what they wanted, this role was built for you.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Talk with current and prospective customers by phone, email, chat, and social media, and help them choose the right upgrades for their car and their goals
  • Turn inbound interest into orders and appointments, and earn commission on the sales you close
  • Work warm and cold leads with equal energy, and turn both into customers who are thrilled with what they bought
  • Be an active, credible presence in Tesla owner communities: Facebook groups, forums, Instagram, YouTube comments, and Reddit. You build real relationships there and turn them into customers
  • Act as both a sales advisor and a parts and service advisor, helping customers understand fitment, lead times, install requirements, and what their car actually needs
  • Book install appointments and coordinate vehicle drop-offs and pickups at our Hawthorne facility
  • Enter and manage orders with our production, warehouse, and shipping teams
  • Own the follow-up cadence after the sale. Every customer knows where their order stands, what happens next, and when, because you told them before they had to ask
  • Become a genuine product expert on the full Unplugged Performance range of products and services

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Sales experience, with commission-based sales experience preferred
  • An active personal social media presence and a Facebook account you actually use. You'll be interacting with customers and enthusiast communities directly, and you're comfortable doing that as yourself
  • Proven ability to build trust in online communities and convert that trust into business, whether that's in Facebook groups, forums, Discord servers, or comment sections
  • A strong automotive background, professional or personal. Tesla or EV knowledge is a big plus
  • A real understanding of what makes a great customer experience, before the sale and long after it
  • Serious organization. You keep a follow-up cadence, you don't let anyone fall through the cracks, and you close the loop every time
  • A lot of patience. Enthusiasts ask a lot of questions, builds take time, and the best advisors stay steady through all of it
  • Clear, friendly written and verbal communication, and a real drive to take care of people
  • Comfort working in Excel, email, and web-based order and CRM systems
  • Availability for occasional overtime and weekends during busy periods
  • A valid California driver's license with a clean driving record, since you'll move customer cars
  • A strong drive to be the best in the world at what you do
  • Desire to work in-office 5 days a week with other awesome people

WHAT THIS ROLE IS REALLY LIKE

We'll be straight with you: this job is demanding. The volume is high, the customers are passionate and detail-oriented, and the standard we hold ourselves to is the highest in the industry. You'll juggle inbound leads, active builds, and post-sale follow-up at the same time.

It's also one of the most rewarding seats in the business. You get to be the person who helps someone build their dream car, you build a real book of customers who come back and refer their friends, and your earnings are directly tied to how well you take care of them. The people who thrive here are the ones who genuinely enjoy the work, not just the paycheck.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Base pay: $18/hr + Commission
  • Commission: uncapped, paid on the sales you close. Realistic total annual earnings of $100,000 to $200,000 including commission
  • Overtime and bonus opportunities
  • 100% employer-paid medical insurance
  • Generous 401(k) match
  • Paid holidays, sick days, and personal time off
  • Employee pricing on Unplugged Performance and Bulletproof Automotive parts
  • Monthly personal Tesla allowance scaling up to $400 per month
  • Work hands-on with some of the most exciting Tesla builds in the world

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
