About The Role
The IT Development Program (ITDP) provides program participants with the opportunity to advance their technical and leadership skills through challenging assignments across multiple areas of business. Each ITDP participant has unique program experiences with the possibility of working on different teams in varied worksites over a three-year period. This allows program participants to diversify their technical skills and build their professional network.
In addition, the ITDP allows participants to learn from Caterpillar technical leaders and experts in a variety of team dynamics. ITDP participants absorb, in just a few years, what often takes a decade for young professionals to experience. At the completion of the three rotations, ITDP participants will be placed into a permanent position that aligns with Caterpillar IT's strategic workforce goals.
What You Will Do
Professionals within the program will complete three 12-month rotations, which are defined based on business needs. You must be willing to travel and relocate to any of three Caterpillar IT placement locations in North America upon hire. Those areas are Dallas (Irving) TX, Nashville, TN, and East Peoria, IL. Your second or third rotation may include an assignment at one of our regional manufacturing facilities.

What You Will Have
  • Business Acumen: Knowledge of business concepts, tools, and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Customer Focus: Knowledge of the values and practices that align customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in all business decisions and ability to leverage that information in creating customized customer solutions.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

About You (Program Qualifications)
  • Candidates for this role will have a bachelor's degree in a technical or quantitative discipline, including computer science, computer engineering, information systems, information technology, cyber security, mathematics, or similar with a minimum cumulative GPA: 3.0 on 4.0 scale (without rounding)
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, problem solving and conceptual skills
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills
  • Intermediate programming skills or experience in one or more of the following areas: Go, Kotlin, Python, Java, HTML, Swift, XML, JSON, UML, JavaScript, SQL, PL/SQL, Shell scripts, Objective C, C#, C/C++, Perl, .net, asp.net, Visual Basic
  • 12 months or less of technical professional experience in this field, excluding internships (preferred)
  • Available to start June 2026

Summary Pay Range:
$81,370.00 - $122,060.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
