Our Team:
HCVT’s SALT group is based in Southern California and serves a sophisticated client base in a variety of industries.  With more than 25 dedicated SALT professionals, the team is comprised of new college graduates, industry personnel, former state tax auditors and administrators, and former tax professionals from large national firms. Collectively, we bring substantial expertise in navigating the intricate requirements of state and local taxing authorities.  Our array of services includes state income and franchise tax compliance and consulting, indirect tax compliance and consulting, credits and incentives, state tax controversy, and other related offerings.  Join HCVT’s SALT group and have access to outstanding resources, talented individuals, and opportunities to enhance your technical expertise and leadership abilities. 

HCVT operates under a hybrid working model. Effective Jan 1, 2024, employees are expected to work at their assigned office a minimum of two days per week. In the event that this is not geographically reasonable, you may work in the office closest to your home.  Additionally, we expect employees to participate in required firm events/meeting (e.g., trainings, team bonding, client meetings, etc.)

You will be a valuable member on tax engagements and provide state and local indirect tax planning, consulting, and compliance services to a diverse client base in various industries. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Researching state and local indirect tax legislation and assisting with drafting client responses and memos.
  • Assisting with various state and local indirect tax consulting projects including sales & use and excise tax overpayment reviews, tax implications of sales and purchase transactions, audit defense services, nexus planning, and voluntary disclosures.
  • Onboarding new sales tax compliance clients to enhance operational efficiencies and streamline workflow.
  • Supervising tax accountants and interns on assigned engagements.
  • Assisting with preparation of client billings and account reconciliations.
  • Assisting with drafting proposals for new and existing clients.

To be successful, these are the skills and experiences you will need:


    Required:
  • 2+ years' experience in state and local indirect tax (sales & use and excise tax)
  • Experience with state and local indirect tax planning, tax research, and tax analysis
  • Preparation and review experience of state and local indirect tax returns
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or other related field
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Supervisory experience
  • One of the following accreditations obtained, in process, or willing and able to obtain:
  • Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA
  • If not CPA eligible:
  • Licensed attorney
  • Enrolled Agent

  • Preferred:
  • Advanced degree - Masters of Taxation or JD and/or LLM
  • Previous large or midsize CPA firm experience

This salary range is specific to the state(s) listed and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill set and education; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the range for this position is $95,000 to $130,000.
