It provides a safe space for Indigenous staff to connect, learn, and share best practices.

About the role:

At AtkinsRéalis, we are seeking an Indigenous Talent Acquisition Advisor to build and maintain strong, lasting relationships with Indigenous (First Nations (Status or non-Status), Métis or Inuit) Peoples, Indigenous student groups at universities, colleges, associations, not-for-profit organizations, and recruitment partners. This role will focus on enhancing our Human Resource (HR) programs and policies to support talent attraction, provide a positive onboarding experience for new employees, and promote the retention of Indigenous employees.

The Indigenous Talent Acquisition Advisor will play a key role in achieving these goals by networking with Indigenous professionals (both internally and externally) while promoting hiring opportunities to Indigenous Persons across Canada.

Your Role Within the Team and Across the Company

  • Leveraging your in-person and virtual relationship-building experience, you will be responsible for conducting outreach and engagement with Indigenous Peoples, Indigenous communities, educational institutions, and not-for-profit organizations across Canada. This will involve sharing information about current and potential job opportunities, as well as pursuing new relationship leads to support talent recruitment.

  • You will assist in identifying and recruiting Indigenous talent.

  • You will help develop, execute, and report on recruitment plans that measurably address assigned recruitment markets and project needs.

  • You will gather input from Indigenous employees on policies and programs that can better support their well-being, enhance employee engagement, and identify new ways to foster an inclusive workplace culture.

Your day-to-day role within Talent Acquistion

  • Your excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills will enable you to build strong, collaborative relationships with Indigenous communities, community organizations, and educational institutions, while effectively speaking and presenting to both large and small audiences.

  • You will provide guidance and training to recruiters and hiring managers, assess risks and recommend mitigation strategies within the hiring process, and utilize existing opportunity networks.

  • You will collaborate on HR projects focused on talent attraction, onboarding and employee retention.

Your experience

  • You have a deep understanding of working with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Populations gained through direct work experiences and community engagement in both urban and rural Indigenous communities.

  • You possess strong skills in identifying recruitment barriers and can articulate solutions to remove them, while also applying an unconscious bias lens throughout the recruitment and hiring process.

  • Your strong network with local Indigenous communities and organizations is considered an asset. Be prepared to discuss your relationships with local First Nations, Métis communities, and organizations you have collaborated with, specifically in British Columbia, as well as any experience working with Inuit groups or organizations.

Position Requirements

  • A valid driver's license is required for travel to and from events.

  • Availability for a 37.5-hour work week with flexible, agreed-upon hours, and the ability to attend weekend events as needed.

Why choose AtkinsRéalis as an employer?

Because we offer:

  • The opportunity to be part of a progressive HR team that is focused on living our values and implementing a culture of inclusivity and respect towards others.

  • Good work-life balance and excellent learning and development opportunities.

  • Competitive pay, flexible benefits, an employee share plan, and a defined contribution pension plan.

  • A work environment focused on health and safety.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • A strong understanding of the common employment barriers that Indigenous Peoples may face when seeking jobs in the engineering sector, along with a solid grasp of unconscious bias in recruitment and hiring processes.

  • Thorough understanding of, and demonstrated ability of working with, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Populations and understanding of the diverse needs and expectations of servicing and working with each group.

  • Ability to train and mentor colleagues in the area of Indigenous student recruitment techniques.

  • Ability to persuade, inform, and influence complex decisions.

  • Outstanding public/promotional/persuasive speaking and presentation skills including presentations to large and small audiences.

  • Ability to develop, execute, and report upon recruitment plans that measurably address assigned recruitment markets and project needs.

  • Must exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to build strong collaborative relationships with internal and external parties.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Motivated, ambitious, and a results-driven go-getter.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
