Job description:
The Human Resources Manager onboard the cruise ship will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the ship's human resources operations. The role of the Human Resources Manager is crucial in recruiting, developing, and maintaining a skilled and motivated workforce, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and fostering a positive work environment. This position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and a commitment to supporting the ship's mission and values.
· HR Strategy: Develop, implement, and communicate HR strategies, policies, and procedures that align with the ship's objectives and values. Collaborate with all ship's departments to support overall operational goals;
· Training and Development: Coordinate and facilitate training and development programs to enhance crew skills and knowledge. Identify training needs, organize training sessions, and monitor crew performance and career development;
· Personnel Administration: Oversee personnel administration tasks, including crew contracts, payroll processing, benefits administration, and HR recordkeeping. Ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations;
· Crew Welfare: Manage crew welfare programs and initiatives to enhance crew satisfaction and well-being. Address crew concerns, provide support during personal and professional challenges, and maintain open lines of communication;
· Performance Management: Implement performance management processes, including regular performance appraisals, goal setting, and feedback sessions. Identify high-potential crew members and develop succession plans;
· Employee Relations: Act as a mediator and advisor in resolving crew conflicts and disputes. Promote a positive and respectful work environment and enforce company policies and procedures;
· Compliance: Ensure compliance with maritime labor regulations, employment laws, and company policies. Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to address HR-related legal matters;
· Crew Engagement: Develop and execute crew engagement initiatives, events, and activities to enhance morale and promote a sense of belonging among crew members;
· Budget Management: Prepare and manage the HR department budget, including labor costs, training expenses, and crew welfare programs;
· Reporting: Prepare HR reports and metrics for senior management, including crew turnover, performance, and compliance statistics;
· Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on HR trends and best practices in the cruise industry. Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies within the HR department;
· Administrative Tasks: Oversee administrative functions, such as maintaining accurate crew records, preparing reports, and managing departmental expenses within the allocated budget;
· Safety and Security: Ensure compliance with ship safety protocols and emergency procedures within the crew. Participate in emergency response and contingency planning. Monitor security measures and promptly report any incidents or concerns;
· Communication and Collaboration: Foster effective communication and collaboration with other vessel departments, including housekeeping, food and beverage, and deck & engine, to ensure seamless guest experiences and resolve operational issues.
Profile :
· A minimum of 5-years’ experience in a leadership Human Resources role, preferably in a luxury ship and/ or luxury hotel setting;
· Proficiency in English is mandatory, with excellent verbal and written communication skills for interaction with local authorities and guests. Knowledge of Arabic and/or additional languages is a plus;
· Experience in other cruise companies, in cruise vessels of similar size (15000 GT/3400 pax) is a plus;
· Proven leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team;
· Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with exceptional attention to detail with a focus on HR standards;
· In-depth knowledge of labour laws, regulations, and maritime labour conventions;
· Proficiency in HR software and systems for personnel administration;
· Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to handle crew complaints and concerns with professionalism and empathy;
· Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment, including weekends and holidays;
· Understanding of shipboard safety and security protocols and the ability to ensure compliance.
Contract Length:
3 months on board 3 months vacation
