Proactive Safety in Design Review

• Read, interpret, and perform comprehensive safety reviews of architectural drawing sets, technical specifications, engineering drawings, floor layouts, elevations, and life safety plans across all project phases:
  • Concept & Schematic Design
  • Design Development
  • Construction Documentation

Lifecycle Hazard Mitigation

• Apply Safety in Design principles and the Hierarchy of Controls to eliminate or reduce hazards at the design stage.
• Prioritize hazard elimination, substitution, and engineering controls before administrative controls and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Evaluate designs to ensure safety throughout all lifecycle stages, including:
  • Construction
  • Installation
  • Commissioning
  • Operations
  • Maintenance
  • Demolition and Decommissioning

Hazard Identification and Risk Workshops

• Lead or participate in multidisciplinary hazard identification and risk assessment exercises.
• Facilitate workshops with architects, engineers, contractors, maintenance personnel, and operational end-users to ensure designs are practical, maintainable, and resilient to human error.

Regulatory and Code Compliance

• Verify that facility and equipment designs comply with applicable local, regional, national, and international regulations, standards, and codes, including:
  • OSHA
  • NFPA
  • International Building Code (IBC)
  • ADA
  • Other relevant jurisdiction-specific requirements

HSE Program Administration

• Support regional HSE programs, initiatives, standards, procedures, and governance frameworks.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational safety objectives.

Performance Monitoring and Continuous Improvement

• Monitor Safety in Design performance metrics and project outcomes.
• Capture lessons learned and recommend enhancements to design standards, technical guidelines, and best practices.
• Analyze injury, illness, and incident trends to identify improvement opportunities and strengthen risk controls.

Operational Leadership and Coordination

• Coordinate safety review activities and support project delivery schedules.
• Assign and manage safety-related tasks while ensuring quality, consistency, and timely completion of deliverables.

Multi-Disciplinary Technical Integration

• Integrate safety considerations across multiple disciplines, including:
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Occupational Hygiene
  • Process Safety
  • Materials and Chemical Safety
• Develop solutions that support inherently safer facility and equipment design.

Risk Transfer and Operational Handover

• Provide safety oversight during commissioning, startup, and handover activities.
• Ensure critical risk information, design assumptions, and control measures are accurately documented and effectively transferred to operations and maintenance teams.

Professional Communication and Leadership

• Demonstrate leadership through professionalism, collaboration, integrity, accountability, and excellence.
• Translate complex technical HSE requirements into clear, practical guidance for project stakeholders, clients, and operational teams.
• Foster a proactive safety culture through effective communication and stakeholder engagement.

Travel Requirements

• Approximately 20% to 25% domestic and international travel for project reviews, site inspections, commissioning support, operational readiness verification, and stakeholder engagement activities.

• Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, Science, or a related field preferred. Equivalent education and experience will be considered. Minimum 2 to 5 years of relevant experience required.
• Technical Drawing Review: Ability to read and interpret architectural, engineering, and construction drawings, specifications, and scope documents, with a focus on safety compliance.
• Risk & Hazard Management: Experience in hazard identification, risk assessment, and implementing effective control measures. Understanding of engineering design and construction processes.
• Safety Regulations & Standards: Knowledge of OSHA requirements, safety legislation, and building/fire safety codes such as NFPA, IBC, and ADA.
• Problem Solving & Analysis: Strong analytical skills to identify safety risks, evaluate technical proposals, and develop practical, compliant solutions.
• Ergonomics & Data Analysis: Ability to analyze and apply human factors, ergonomic principles, and technical data to improve workplace safety and processes.
• Numerical Skills: Comfortable working with percentages, ratios, incident statistics, budgets, and other calculations related to EHS performance.
• Microsoft Office Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel (including data analysis and pivot tables), PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Communication & Organization: Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical safety concepts clearly to various stakeholders.
• Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel approximately 20% to 25% for site inspections, commissioning, and facility handover activities.
• Certifications (Preferred): IOSH certification preferred. Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, CIH, CHMM, PMP, Fire Safety, Emergency Planning, or equivalent qualifications are highly desirable.
