SUMMARY
The Total Rewards Lead will be a key contributor to the broader People strategy as a member of the People Leadership Team. They will lead our total rewards strategy and execution, building on and evolving our current total rewards philosophy and programs across compensation, equity, perks and benefits. They will create innovative, industry-competitive rewards strategies and programs and are comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. This role will collaborate with executives and employees across the organization at all levels and departments.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in designing total reward models across different geographies and departments including Engineering, Product, Sales, and G&A. The ideal person for this role will also have experience with executive compensation program design and governance. Experience transitioning compensation from private to a public company operation is a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Compensation & Equity
- Lead the strategy, design and execution of the company's salary, bonus and equity structures, in close partnership with the VP of People and HR Core team
- Design, evaluate, and modify compensation policies to ensure that programs are current, competitive, and in compliance with internal and external requirements
- Ensure ongoing effectiveness of the structure given talent market changes and competitive talent landscape
- Drive fairness and compliance in pay practices and policies
- Own compensation processes and programs including job evaluations and salary surveys, base and variable pay programs, and merit and promotions processes
- Partner with the CFO and VP of People to manage benefit plans as well as annual merit, promotion and bonus programs
- Perform modeling of various incentive and merit programs to determine effective plan design
- Identify and implement best in class practices through participation in appropriate professional and industry groups; participate in and use published surveys for market comparisons
- Establish and measure key compensation and benefit program metrics to understand the effectiveness of the total rewards strategy
- Partner with executive and senior leadership teams to understand and proactively address key concerns in attracting, motivating and retaining high performing, diverse talent
- Own the strategy and vision for supporting employees through awareness, understanding and training regarding compensation and benefit programs; partner with the Communications Team and L&D Team to develop materials
- Build trusted partnerships with leaders across the organization
Benefits
- The Total Rewards Lead will also own and manage WELL Health’s benefit and wellness strategy, communications and implementation of programs including health, welfare, retirement and leave benefits programs
- Manage open enrollment, renewal, and delivery of benefits programs to include medical, vision, dental, disability, life insurance, employee assistance programs, retirement, and other plans
- Partner closely with benefits brokers and other administrators to ensure effective delivery of all benefits programs on an ongoing basis in a multi-state environment
- Partner with broker(s) and other external vendors to identify trends and best practices, compare existing company benefits with those of other employers and analyze benefit plans to optimize resources and effectively deliver programs
- Partner with the Learning & Development Team to create and deliver training related to benefits, leave, wellness, compensation, and total rewards programs to assist employees in making maximum use of available programs to facilitate overall well-being
- Ensure training programs are woven into the talent lifecycle (i.e. onboarding, performance development, manager training)
- Together with legal counsel, ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures for benefit and retirement management and delivery, and recommend policy and procedure changes (i.e. ACA, COBRA, EEO-1 reporting, ERISA, HIPAA, FLSA, FMLA, annual 5500 filings, California Pay Data Reporting and auditing of plans)
- Liaise with our retirement advisors and brokers of record to administer all program initiatives for 401(k) plans including annual compliance and reporting filing and employee notifications
REQUIREMENTS
- Serve as a member of the People Leadership Team
- 7+ years of experience in compensation and benefits, including equity design, Engineering, Product, Sales, G&A and Executive Compensation
- Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory, legal requirements and reporting (i.e. ACA, COBRA, EEO-1 reporting, ERISA, HIPAA, FLSA, FMLA, annual 5500 filings, California Pay Data Reporting and auditing of plans)
- A demonstrable track record of crafting and implementing total rewards strategies that align employees with shareholder value
- Experience in a fast-paced, growing startup environment to ensure programs and tools can scale globally
- A strong customer service orientation
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to establish credible relationships and communicate with all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated strategic, analytic, and financial skills that translate into actionable, results-oriented plans
- Comfort with ambiguity, autonomy, and figuring out what needs to be done and then doing it without being specifically directed
- An enterprise-wide thinker, with a lens on how decisions made within one site or unit may affect others across the business
- Exceptional understanding of equity planning and models
- Comfort moving fluidly between tactical execution and strategic thinking
- Have the motivation, curiosity and passion to learn a lot, improve processes, and make WELL Health a uniquely supportive place to work
- Experience transitioning a company from a private to public equity stance is a plus

WELL Health is headquartered in Santa Barbara, CA. This role is remote and open to anyone currently based in the United States. #LI-Remote
